The Eagles are not country (i.e., they don't suck), I believe the comment was that the dixie chicks were touring with them at some point. Personally, I hadn't even heard of the dixie chicks until the incident with little george.

As a banjo picker myself, I MUST respond.

I have been pickin' for awhile, and I'm NOWHERE near good. Then I listen to a true virtuoso like Earl Scruggs, and it almost discourages me...he's THAT good!!!

IF I had known what a difficult instrument the banjo is to master, I would have stuck with the harmonica(which is also a surprisingly difficult instrument to master), or picked something "easy" like the guitar.

I can sure understand not caring for a certain genre( personally, I would rather listen to Fran Drescher laugh for 8 hours straight than listen to 10 minutes of opera), but you still have to appreciate the talent involved.
BTW, my friends of the...ahem...country persuasion don't seem to care much for bluegrass. My feeling is that bluegrass is just too damn cool for the country crowd!

I love banjos too. Bluegrass is pretty cool! Do they still have the bluegrass festival in Bean Blossum Indiana?

Let's not insult bluegrass by confusing it with country "music." Some bluegrass picking is amazing, county mostly involves whining about pick-up trucks and wearing silly hats, while playing three cords.

^^^ As a banjo picker, I agree. I have run into so many people who are almost militant in their opposition to the banjo! It's funny how many people refuse to understand the complexity of bluegrass, and don't believe the skill of the musicians that make it sound so easy.

If ya don't believe me, try scrubbin' off a lighning fast passage with 2 or 3 different rolls, with slides, pull-offs, hammer-ons, and pinch chords and make it all sound smooth and easy.

One of the items on my bucket list is to just once rise to the level of a Ralph Stanley, or Earl Scruggs. I figure if it does happen, I will have lived a very long life!

I love bluegrass, hate country. Only the commercial, more recent country. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM-jNmU4ybk&feature=related

Invented by the Dopyera brothers in 1928, the Flatt and Scrugs band, the Foggy Mountain Boys, introduced the dobro to blue grass music in 1950 and I have been hooked to its high lonesome sound since.

So unbelievably dishonest and with such negative ramifications for the world. It can't be topped, IMHO. It is the biggest lie I have ever heard any politician say. Of course, Tim Russert let it pass without following up

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld...
Here is Rumsfeld, referring to the looting and destruction of the museum in Baghdad which housed, by definition, the most historic artifacts in the world:
Quote:
..."The images you are seeing on television, you are seeing over and over and over," he complained. "It's the same picture of some person walking out of some building with a vase and you see it twenty times. And you think, my goodness, were there that many vases?"

After pausing for laughter, Rumsfeld delivered the punch line: "Is it possible that there were that many vases in the whole country?"...

Its not that the Chicks have a *different* point of view, everything is relative, but their argument is illogical, irrational and uninformed. It would be like hating someone for being tall, rather than for the type of person they were.

For more examples, just watch the View.
