The guy should quote sources, selectively edit, condense, reformat and inject some individual thought.

Pretty shabby.

For one reason, one reason only---we believe that is what the Scriptures teach. It is certainly not because we somehow wan that to be true.

Kerry, re: Christian Reconstruction.

I've just gone through this issue and I disagree with their assumption that the Christians first duty is to make their nation a Christian nation. In my reading, I see no argument that supports that assumption; they just seem to start with it.
The see only 2 models for Christians: 1) The pilgrim wayfarer of Bunyan's Pilgrim,s Progress--which they reject, or 2) the triumphant soldier of "Onward Christian Soldiers".
Much of what I see comes from assumptions that they try to sanctify by "proof-texts". I prefer an approach that derives concepts from Scripture, rather than trying to force foreign ideas into Scripture.
I consider Christian Reconstructionists as fellow believers ( although they may not consider me as such), but wrong on this issue.

I never suspected you were a Reconstructionist and I think the same of sjh. I posted it in response to sjh's view that his position is private and not to be imposed on anyone else. I'm not convinced this is truly the case since he speaks positively of missionaries who commit their entire lives to changing non-christian cultures to christian cultures and implies by his comments about demons in non-christian cultures that non-christian cultures are inferior, evil and need to be changed into christian ones. His views on the dignity of Native Americans as an implication of his demonology are roughly on a par with the early European settlers who called natives savages.

The Christian Reconstructionists in the USA, of which there are millions, especially in it's morphed version in Pentecostalism where it is called Dominionism (the Church is to have dominion over the world) have even called for the death penalty for gay people. That position has no rational ground and is justified strictly by the Bible. I think that kind of authoritarianism has no part in a free society. Mike Bickle, the man in the video that started this thread is a part of that Dominionist movement. His whole demonology is part of his 'Spiritual Warfare' in which secular society is to be superceded by religious society, beginning with defeats of the demons in the spiritual world.

You don't have to be socialist to see that religion is crap. I don't agree with much of Marx said and the only thing I can agree with is that religion, whatever you have as the deity is the opium of the masses.

I agree that in many instances, religion is an opiate, particularly when it comes to industrial production. However, in the case of demons and demonology which started this thread, I think the role of religion is very different. One main purpose of demonology is to induce fear in the listeners. Scared people are much more likely to follow authority figures than secure people. It's why detecting demons is a private gift of discernment held by the authority figure. The average person cannot themselves verify or deny the existence of these terrifying beings, but must just accept the judgment of the authority. So demonology is an obedience-inducing feature of religion.

Not all "us" Christians would. It is not found anywhere in the Bible that a child has "original sin." Baptism is commanded for those who can understand what it means.
That is one of the most disgusting perversions of scripture that can be found. Children are no more condemned than my dog is.

Somehow I doubt that you came up with these talking points all by yourself! Great job though- you have all the left wing buzz words covered: abortion, enviroment, handicapped, disadvantaged, children, and the holy grail of all liberal hatespeech- Christian!!!! I'm sure all your fellow travelers will use your inspirational plagarism to achieve socialist nirvana. Too bad ( and thank God)nobody else is swayed by your Soros sponsored agenda. BTW who is the original author? http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=295613

Another fox (news?) canned response. Just say George Soros and watch the bobble-heads all nod their heads in agreement.

The Chinese are now celebrateing the 'Hungry Ghost Festival', where it is believed that hell opens its doors, and releases souls, who wander the earth.

Offerings include paper lap-tops, money, cars,(and other worldly items), which are burnt in hopes that the souls will be satisfied with these gifts, and return to hell.

What is your take on this?

In an established culture, like ours, I wish to work within the existing structure.

When two cultures met, and I use that term loosely in this case, and there are massive differences in levels-of-development it is a much different situation and must be examined on a case-by-case basis.

Regarding the American Indians I see the behavior of the Europeans as identical with how any nation/culture at that time in history would have responded and the same as how the Indians themselves behaved.

Regarding missionaries, the ones I support are invited or at least work within the existing structures to promulgate their message.

As a Christian I believe all are lost without Christ and that we are specifically charged to 'feed His sheep.' As such, I view Christian missionaries as improving those they visit.

As a man-of-experience I believe Western culture, which derives much (not all) of its identity from Judeo-Christian values, has many, many strengths not present or not present to the same extent in other cultures.

So, contrary to your protestations, you actually are a cultural imperialist.,

If your statements on Bickle are correct then he and I walk different paths.

I have read some of the folks who wish to create a theistic society and impose OT law.

I don't really need to respond or differentiate myself or 99% of the Christians do I?

You were defending Bickle's demonology on the basis of biblical authority. The dominionists defend the death penalty for gays on exactly the same grounds. I see no difference in your epistemologies.

I've tried before to say that not all Christians have as black-and-white view on damnation as is oftentimes believed.

I didn't have good answers and wasn't allowed to express my reservations without being labelled an avoider since I didn't respond with an absolute yes-or-no.

There is much abuse done by us humans, regardless of the 'clothes we wear.' I cannot defend much that has been done falsely under the name of Christ.

But I know the difference in one's live when they know Jesus and I share that.
