i had a 1959 Austin Gipsy. From the little amount of info available about it I guess it was one of less than 10 or so in the US!

Square steering wheel? Weird.

For me, DMC-12

Lots of wierd things about it, but basically a good car. Dealer network pretty much sucked though.
I totally forgot I had one of those too! It had a big folding sunroof. I think the transmission was out front and there were stories about mechanics draining the transmission instead of the engine oil. The seats were comfortable and the ride was plush for such a small car.

My other weird car was a 1971 Checker Marathon. It wasn't a taxi - Checker built a few cars every year with carpeting, woodgrain dash, and nicer materials for private use.

I had a LeCar. 80 something. Bought it new. It was truly odd, but pretty fun to drive. As I recall they were sold by Chrysler dealerships. I took a terrible beating when I sold it.

Yeppers, imported by AMC, which was bought by Chrysler. At some point, they started building Renaults in Wisconsin. Can't remember if the R5 was ever built there, but the later models were for sure. I bought mine new and drove it for quite a while. Traded it in on a Chevy V6 diesel, which was the car from hell.

I had an alfa milano, it wasnt that odd I guess, but you dont see them often (~3500 were imported). I ended up selling it because it was starting to get too many oil leaks that required major disassembley to fix, the headlights were horrible and the only fix was $1k for a set of euro lights, and the heater didnt work and i couldnt find the parts to fix it. All the drivetrain parts were pretty good though.

'87 Audi 4000cs quattro. Long-stroke 2.2-liter 5-cylinder engine delivered only 115 horsepower, but the engine was torquey and very free revving, a lot like an OM617. The drivetrain included a close-ratio five-speed (quattros at that time were not available with an automatic) and locking center and rear differentials -- you could lock them up with a switch on the console.

It was the classic low-power car that was incredibly fun to drive. I used to take it to the track a lot. It also was unstoppable in snow. Wish I'd had the turbo version.

Oh, and quirky stuff included that the water pump was also the timing belt tensioner. It also suffered from VAG disease -- broken door handles, window regulators, crappy wiring, etc.

1956 190SL the first car I ever restored. Very rusty when I bought it back in 1977. Drove it for several years and owned it for twenty. Sold that one in 1997 and bought a rust free example in 1993 that I still have.

My cars have been pretty main stream. I mean when the oddest car you've owned was a 504 Peugeot, how far off the beaten path can you be?

The Falcon Sprint convertible was very conventional, but the idea of a V8 in a Falcon was a little odd, especially at the time.

Nice...

I can't top that. I once had a Ford Cortina estate

The odd thing about it was when it rained the carpet foamed!

(I had spilt washing powder over the transmission tunnel on my way to the laundrette)
