Maybe we could just pass some legislation stating that DB's aren't allowed to drive. That would eliminate one-half the vehicles on the road.
Years ago I lived in Irving Texas and took a large commuter bus into downtown Dallas to work. The bus was known as the "Park-N-Ride". I could read a newspaper, drink coffee or sleep on the trip downtown. Didn't have to worry about idiot drivers, it was great. It dropped me directly in front of the office tower I worked in, no muss no fuss.

If our cars were fully automated we could sleep, read a book, play games with the kids, whatever and worry a lot less about safety issues. Think of the stress reduction..........

Apparently, this DB thinks that I must accelerate the SD to maintain a 15' following distance when the light turns green...........otherwise he's not happy. And, what does the DB do? He turns on his high beams to let me know that I'm not accelerating fast enough and keeping a short enough following distance.

Fully automated cars would be a panacea. Anything to avoid the stupidity of the majority who must get to the next red light faster than you.
In another life I worked for an aircraft parts company. One part I remember well were landing lights for a Boeing 737 aircraft. Wouldn't it be nice to have four of those mounted on the rear of your SD? DB hits his high beams, turn on the switch and he will quickly learn how blind people make their way in this world.....

Years ago, there was a clip regarding how vehicles could easily follow a set of imbedded metal "dots" in the road...........similar to "Bots dots" on the West Coast. No steering required.

The current technology easily adapts a vehicle to maintain a fixed following distance to the vehicle ahead.

Combine the two............think of the benefits...........phenomenal.

All of the traffic jams that currently exist are eliminated. Traffic jams are the result of DB's who hit the brakes..........not the result of "too many cars on the road". Eliminate the DB...........eliminate the problem.

Phenomenal.

All this available technology............nobody to implement it.

Why don't we ban people?

This is a secret..........don't tell anybody..........but I am absolutely going to setup an oil spray system on the back of the SD. Press a button and some waste oil contaminated diesel fuel will eject itself from two nozzles directly onto the following DB.

Problem eliminated.

PRICELESS.

(B-737 landing lights would be fantastic..........but, I'd need a portable 400Hz generator...........)

heeeeeee!

Yah I read about that some time ago.

Actually all it would take is ONE aircraft landing light!

You would X ray the guy's freaking dashboard when you lit him up with one.

I've thought about rigging one up on the parcel shelf (many times!) --- but you could cause him to crash and kill himself and others with him you zapped him in the face with it.

But it sure would rectify the problem wouldn't it?

It is also highly illegal, I am sure.

Problem is most people are pretty stupid and can hardly manage to keep their vehicles on the road in perfect conditions.

Throw in a cell and they are in a tree.

Annoying for smart people because we can talk and drive better than the morons on our worst days. But we still have to suffer.

In the end traffic deaths are pretty low, let it happen, who cares.

The real problem is that most people are as stupid as can be, and are incapable of thinking ahead while driving. IE if I tailgate this person I won't get where I'm going faster. Simple thoughts like that never enter their little brains.

No witnesses.

No police report.

She claimed that I failed to see her in my blind spot.

She was represented by the attorney hired by State Farm.

The lower of the two estimates was $1700.

We could settle for $850. or risk the trial and probability of returning at another date and killing another day.

I took the $850.

The DB won.

A dash cam would have been worth another $850 in this case. I'm sure that plenty of folks get into such situations all the time and it only takes the DB to lie like a rug to mitigate the situation in a court of law.
Pay said DB $1 a month for the next 850 years. As long as your paying on a settlement they can't go after you.

Natural selection, who cares, we need to weed out a few bad apples so let it happen.

Problem is in the past 30 years driving has gotten so safe these government agencies are searching for ways to justify their existence.

Yeah, but when's the last time you heard of anyone getting a ticket for it without being involved in an accident first? It's so common the cops can't be bothered.

Years ago I had a 70-something Subaru 4wd wagon. The first brand new car I ever bought. It's rear windshield washer spray nozzle consisted of a little copper tube that stuck out about three eighths of an inch. I discovered that it was bendy enough that I could aim it backwards. It had enough spray force that I could nail a tailgater right in the windshield. Worked like a charm. That was before road rage became fashionable though, people took hints a lot better then.
