Hey Peter and MTI, have you been out to the auction yet? I'm not going to make it this year and it looks to be a shame. Some pretty high quality card girls they've been showing, errr, I mean, looks like some nice cars so far.

Haven't seen any high priced cars but I don't know whether I've missed them or they haven't been on.

They seem to be stuck on "customs" or "resto-mods" or I've just been going to bed too early.

They had big impact on the old car scene for certain stuff 6-9 yrs ago.
Not anymore - -

they are as out of touch as a yahoo news story.

I've never been to one and probably never will. If I were to go to one I think I'd prefer Goodings. They seem to be more exclusive and have an aluminum 55 300SL gullwing up for sale this year with a several million dollar projected price tag as well as som other very nice Benz's and very rare vehicles.

- Peter.

Just got back from spending the day at the show. Sensory overload again. The big deal this year seems to be the retro conversion Corvettes. You give the shop a circa 2000 vette in any body condition, like salvage title without frame damage, and they will replace the body work with CF pieces that replicate a mid 50's to 63 vette . . . so the finished product is wider, lower and modern, but the design cues are there.

For those heading there . . . have something to eat at the Kilt Lifter Brewing area . . . and try to keep your eyes up when the waitresses ask for your order . . . it can't be done.

This will be my first time missing it since 2004. There's just too much going on right now.

I will make it to Amelia Island and the Gooding Auction this year.

Kiltlifter is a tasty brew, Four Peaks Brewery's products are pretty impressive and the brewery's growth has been off the charts. Wasn't there a different concurrent auction somewhere nearby?

I think yesterday Bonhams had their debut auction at the Kierland Westin. Also in the valley this week are Russo, RM and Gooding; there's also an auction out at Fort McDowell.

That's what I was thinking!

And I always wonder how those that do, justify the cost of a first-class restoration? Some of those cars seem to sell off the block for far less than it would have cost to do the resto in the first place!

Phx channel 10 just did a live remote at the Gooding and co. auction, showed a gorgeous white Ferrari California convertible, a Lambo and an alloy gullwing. Beautiful gullwing but unfortunately it had PLAID upholstery. yuck. I suppose if I had the 2 million to buy it changing the seatcovers wouldn't be a dealbreaker, or did it come with those?

Plaid was what they put in the racing cars of that era so it was a natural to put in a gullwing. Did it have racing history? I am guessing if it sold for $2M it did.

Complaining about plaid seats in a gullwing is about like complaining that a georgeous woman leaves cracker crumbs in the bed!

I think that Barrett Jackson should televise all of the auctions for the cars that are under $10,000 so the average Joe can get excited about possibly being able to purchase an antique car. Just my $.02 worth.
