that link is the new E500, not the early 90s 500E. same engine?

well, all this gets me to thinking if the E420 doesn't work out, which i have doubts about, how much are early 90s 500E? are they total nightmares as far as maitenance, or just about on SHO level? although honestly, i wish they made it with a stick shift.

although the 500E is meant to be much more than a drag car, i bet with some headers, intake, cams and some gears (most important), that bastard would run over many an american muscle car at the strip

yeah, the crank position sensor it a PITA in the SHO. the water pump will start to leak after 80-85k, then it drips hot coolant right on the friggen sensor. that's why it shorts out. i just replace the crank sensor, cam sensor and tps every 60k when i do the valve lash adjustment (just like a motorcycle, eh?) this way, i don't have to worry about getting stranded. besides, the sensors are pretty cheap.

i live in oakland, ca.

i saw a new lancer EVO8 drag at sears point. he couldn't drive. he was doing 14.3 ets. i think they are around 13.8 if you do a clutch drop at redline. i don't know man, even at 13.8, it's nothing your 500E can't do with more style (maybe with a couple of bolt ons for good measure).

you gotta figure an overhead cam 5 liter engine making only 302 HP has a lot of potential to be discovered. i guess it would benefit mainly from mustang like mods, headers, X pipe and some gears. wha do you think?

see ya,
Robby

The 500E is a monster to maintain, i'm gonna admit it. I'd say in a year, i spent $5,000 in maintanence.

But, its the first year i've had it, and the seller leaves you with getting new break pads and rotors, new tires, and i had to pay like for the 75,000 mile tuneup, and all of that. I'd estimate this year hopefully $2000 in maintanence.

There are alot of factors in the 500E's price. I paid $24,000 for a two tone with dark grey and light grey on the bottom, with 72,000 miles on it. Mine unfortunately had a small electric fire in the engine bay around 76,000 miles. They don't know what happened, it needed a new wiring harness and re-wired. It had a clean record, beautiful condition.

I've seen tan 500E's go for about $20,000 with 90k miles on it. It really all depends. But, i'd say expect atleast $19,000 for one. I'll tell you what though, i'd pay the extra money for the 500E, it's a really amazing car. Though 420's are sweet, theres no doubt about it. The 500E just has the unique history and the rarity. And some extra HP and TRQ

I don't like the SHO. Well I don't like the taurus, period. I don't doubt it's a fun and fast car but it's too plain looking for me.

Funny that this thread showed up I have been driving a green Ford Taurus SES. I don't know what year. It's got 250k mi. and still runs. The suspension is completely destroyed, the brakes barely work, the engine is strong but slowww, and the transmission slips.

The interior is falling apart, the car stinks, and the radio barely works. But a well maintained Supercharged SHO would be such a sleeper!!

I actually ended up driving behind a green SHO yesterday. If I were to guess the SES im driving is a 94 or around that year.

The SHO's engine looks really bad-a$$!! Quite a sight compared to the 3.0 V-6 under the SES hehehe...

Have fun guys

if "your" taurus says SES on the back, it's probably the bubble looking thingy from 96-00? or one of the "semi bubble" looking 01-03 models?

if it was a 1994, it would say GL or LX on the back. and look totally different (same body style as my 1992 SHO).

AMG, hey, i understand about your feelings on the SHO. different cars appeal to different people.

see ya,
Robby
