We hang loads over people everyday. Guess life is cheaper in the entertainment field...

Want to see some unnerving pictures, check out JR Clancy's scary rigging photos... amazing what some idiots think is safe

They could never stand and work beneath a hanging load for obvious reasons. However, this was recently interpreted to mean that they cannot even attach a crane hook under the hanging load..........a process that takes not more than ten seconds.

What's the odds that the wire rope in the crane fails during that ten seconds?

BTW, the cranes are tested to 125% of full load rating every 30 days by the "crane man"...........his only job.

Those photos are an accident waiting to happen. When it does, there is going to be a lot of money paid out by somebody..........

Just a different set of expectations I guess. Performers are almost always under many thousand pounds of lights, speakers, projectors, video walls, you name it, it flies right over 'em. Same for the crowd.

Fortunately I work in a house with qualified, experienced and licensed riggers. Has not always been the case, and I feel fortunate that I have never been personally involved with an accident. (of course I am always aware of what is around and over me, and take precautions) Our guys never exceed 1/2 of the rated capacity of line set or chain motor.

At this point, I have given up almost all of my outdoor shows, as I am not comfortable with the shortcuts being taken in the staging (all the collapses last year are testimony to how bad it has gotten)

I suppose you can subsidize manufacturing just to have it but I think that is a bad idea.

An expensive, custom stand is required to allow the fixture/engine to be lowered vertically into the stand, and, only then can the crane hook be attached.

Now, there's some expense for you to protect life over here. Imagine the Chinese requiring same...............
That is the thing that will happen to China. Maybe in the next generation and a half. When you are broke, you take higher risks. When you get richer, you tend not to do that and someone more gutsy takes over from you.

Your vote might be worth nothing and your money is certainly worth nothing (because you don't have any), but mine is significant.

I don't know if the washer thing is always true.

yesterday, I bought 6mm washers by weight, got 244 for 2.00 plus 6% tax.

yes, I know what you're saying, but then again, the washers are stainless steel and the pennies are copper.

I think pennies should be made out of virtual.

And panties should be made out of Lindor or Ghirardelli made chocolate. There is sweet and sour chicken and this could make "sweet and salty Candy" or whatever her name is.

Pennies are just for paying taxes. Can't buy anything for a penny anymore.

I was looking at 5/16" zinc plated washers at Lowes the other day for twenty some odd cents each, didn't buy them. Maybe they were stainless, I don't think so. I used washers out of an assortment box I bought some time back. Noticed that hardware has gone up across the board. Lag bolts were sixty some odd cents, I bought them. In my experience they are made of a very poor quality material.

I was doing an old fart project. Making saw horses that are probably nicer than most furniture sold today. My time is my own, I play.

I am planning on being around a while. I fully expect to see fast food burgers selling for $20 in my lifetime. They are already up from a nickel or a dime. We have beef imported from Mexico and everything imported from china.

I still say we should have kept manufacturing, outsourced the government, and other criminals.

Chinese safety standards

My sister chanced upon this scene while in China on a student exchange trip:

Pennies haven't contained more than 2.5% copper since 82. They are 97.5% zinc. Hoarders of real pennies are waiting to cash in I hear.
