A necessity if you own a British car.

The most complex systems can fail in the simplest way.

Think of the basic premise of a British roadster . . . it's built in a country in the North Atlantic where sunny days are few and far between.

that is funny. However, don't forget about older generatios of Triumph motorycycles. They also used Lucas Electronics.

Imagine speeding down a wooded country road in the middle of the night. No moonlight. All of a sudden you lose all lights but the bike keeps chugging along in the pitch black. After about 20 seconds of fighting a panic attack the lights come back on by themselves.

I don't have to imagine it....I lived it.

So did my dad. He's told me stories of that happening with his '52 Triumph. I'm hoping that I can build a proper harness when I ever get around to putting the '46 Triumph together...

Indeed, that climate also helps to wash away all the coolant you're spilling on the way from one British car garage to the next garage 11 miles away.

I went to a seminar at one of the Carlisle Import show events ( coming in May) on Lucas electrical problems. The presenter made the observation that the wiring harness never fails--its always the connections, or splices usually poorly made by (always) previous owners.

My first test drive with a friend of a TR6 he was purchasing was an epic tale of Lucas failures--right down to the cloud of smoke the totally obscured his vision when I tried out the heater fan switch. " Don't touch that switch!"
