I don't know how any of this is "secret". It's pretty simple. The credit card companies make a lot of money. They will do everything in their power to continue to make a lot of money. Either play by their rules (which most people will) or don't use them.

I cut all my CC several years ago. Now I have only one (just in case) with a limit of $3K, that's it. I use the card once or twice a month just to keep it active and I pay in full at the end of the month. I sleep much better this way.

Did you know that CC companies call people like yourself and I DEADBEATS because we pay our balance in full every month?

They could call me whatever they want. I still use their money for free, not to mention all the free miles flying back to Europe every year
If they are not happy I would give them the card back.
My Dad (RIP) used to say: "If you can't pay cash, you don't deserve it"
I don't own a single dime to anyone, everything I own is paid for.

Same here, and same philosophy. Many times I've given thanks for inheriting my paternal grandmother's Scottish thrift.

I am another CC DEADBEAT.
we put everything on the card ~ $3k to $5k a month. $25k limit.
Always pay on or before the due date.
Only ever missed it once ~ never got the bill & it cost about $20 in fees.
Loyalty/frequent flyer points are handy.
The CC we use is through a bank that we dont have any other account with. They cant play games with other accounts.

Yes, the LIVEBEATS are the ones who go into bankruptcy.

CC Companies also set the "tone" for the new way of doing business. Hidden Charges, Fees, Late Payments. Look at Cell Phone Company, Cable, Airlines. Everyone has a gimmick now. All about trying to get one over on you. This is what we have become.

Absolutely. A quoted price is basically BS. The additional fees added after the fact make the real cost much higher.

Checkout a car rental price lately? You'll pass out when you see the final bill..........close to 50% above the daily rate.

I recently rented a car via a "package" through Expedia. I had to prepay for the flight and car rental. I didn't get charged a dime more for the car rental. They tried to sell me insurance and such but I declined it.

I'm sure you are correct with their "advertised" price via their company but I was pleased with renting through Expedia. I will definitely do it again.

Try pricing just a flight via Expedia, then price the same flight with a room and car, even for just one night/day. Most times, the bundled trip is cheaper than the flight alone.

The trip wasn't cheaper than the flight alone but the hotel and car rental were a small fraction of what they would be alone.

I'm reading the receipt for my last two corporate rate rentals:

3/15/12 Portland OR: Enterprise Mazda 3 $34 daily rate, with tax and fees $37.61 - pretty reasonable

3/16/12 Seattle, WA: Hertz Toyota Camry $14.98 daily rate, with tax and fees $28.00 - nearly 100% in fees ($8.90) and taxes ($4.12)

Those are excellent. Normally, my airport surcharges are at least 40% of the bill for vehicles picked up and dropped off there.
