For some bizarre reason, I like the 1st gen CR-V...may have something to do with having ridden in the left seat of one for a thousand miles from Sydney to Metung Australia.

The practical side says get a newer one. Probably an '04 onward. I'd like to get in under $7500.

During my first marriage we purchased a 1997 Honda CRV AWD brand new. By far one of the best vehicles I have ever had the opportunity to operate. It made it to 250k miles before my oldest son totaled it out on a brick mailbox. The cylinder head had never been off of the vehicle and it was on the original transmission.

Personally, I like the '97/98 model the best but I have not been in a newer one. I have been in an Element and I still like the CRV better. Anyway, if you look at the early ones make sure you get one with ABS. It was an option that we did not get when we purchased it.

Oh yea, did I mention that you can change out an evaporator in these in about an hour?

Understood.

I haven't really worked on them all that much since we moved to the farm but, the psychological aspect of driving to the barn everyday and seeing all these 'projects' sitting there with little or no hope of any closure on them is simply a weight I'm no longer willing to bear.

Dump them and buy a truck or something. I never do anything to mine and I beat on it every day.

$18k will get a new base Silverado and your pretty much wrench turning free for 10 years.

Too easy for the stuff to become the master and you become the slave. Slave of many masters is not happy.

If you haven't touched it or seen it, enjoyed it, for the last six months or so - let it go. Once I had one of everything I could never find the one thing I wanted when I wanted it so it was no good to me.

I recently found my solder box. Had kept an eye out for it for weeks. Now I can breath vaporized lead again.

A place for everything and everything in its place. Its place may be with someone else.

Still wishing I could live by ideas like these.

As devil's advocate I must say we all have stories of the "one that got away". Keep a favorite (or a few) till last and maybe longer.

I like that.

I like that PSD.

I was hauling 3800# of steers to the slaughter house last fall, bucking a 30+ mph head wind with a cattle trailer that practically has the frontal area of a Nimitz class carrier. I was doing 70 or so and you absolutely could not tell by driving that the PSD unit was working hard until about 1/2 way there I looked at the fuel gauge and realized I'd burned a half a tank compared to the usual 1/4 tank. I backed it off to 60...no point in unnecessarily adding to the cost of beef.

Gotta love diesels.

Same thing with the old Mercedes. I needed to move the TD and D the other day..batteries have been shot for over a year and nothing has been started...dropped in a battery, glow, start, move, done.
