When does a....

Person let people go? I'm talking about people that needed and requested help. And when you spent countless hours on the phone and in person trying to help them, they got what they needed to help them get back on there feet. Then after that, they act like they didn't really need said help. I guess I'M the FOOL for even caring. Will I continue to try to help people?? Probably. But I WILL be very selective in the Future.

Helping people who need it is it's own reward.

Expecting gratitude afterwards is a fools errand.

Feel good about the fact that you did the right thing by somebody and let it go.

Eventually they may move beyond the defensive "I was OK" mode and you could get the thanks you deserve, or not, but you will always know the truth of the matter.

I'm sure you will continue to help those in your circle that need it, regardless of previous experience...

The lord heps them as heps themselves

They helped themselves to you. Don't expect any thanks other than the satisfaction you got from giving them a leg up, and be shut of them or they won't quit you.

Well Stated Sir, Well Stated. I have learned to let them and "It" go.

How about the people that you assist in various ways and their subsequent behavior is though it was their right to such assistance.

In fact, some of those people actually steal from you during the process of your assistance.

No good deed goes unpunished. Count on it.

Quite so. However the absolute worst is when people one helped, with advice, jobs, money or just listening to them grow to resent the fact and repay you with lies, ingratitude and coldness. Hard lesson but the older I get, the less I expect of people in general. I no longer set myself up for failure.

I have had similar experiences to CLK but I do not let it affect my continuing to help my fellow man.

My family was the reciepient of great kindness from others in the past, kindness that made a real difference in our lives and our success.

My Mother made me promise to never forget that kindness and to pass it on to those who I could help.

I do not judge, I do not postulate, I just reach out a helping hand and get them back on their feet and then it is up to them.

There will be success and failure. That is life. But to quit is not my way.

I was raised the same way. I will continue to help people, but I will NOT expect anything in return.
