Discover wins.

No fees, and 1k airline miles a month for the next 15 month as long as I use it, no minimum spend.

I'm flying to FL for fee this winter.

No they take anything!

UI and some small firearms/fishing stores.

I don't even have a debt card. Just cash and one personal card. The Amex is a company card and my accountant would ream me if I used it for personal things.

I cannot personally comment. Only carry cash, debit card, and AMEX card.
I was told by a couple of mortgage brokers to be careful with Capital one because of some way they report to the credit agencies.

I used to have capital one but cancelled it because of....? Not sure, high interest rate maybe.

I have only Discover at the moment but am contemplating getting another visa or mc because some places don't take discover. I am not sure what the interest rate is because I am paying it off every month so it doesn't matter.

I'm not getting mileage though so maybe I need to hit them up for it. How do I do that?

I have a citi bank AAdvantage card. Mile per dollar spent. They have a promo no for one of their premium cards where if your a new cust they will give you 30k miles if you spend 2k in 6 months. They wave the fee on $95 the first year but every year I call to waive the fee they balk and I tell them to close the account and they put me on hold, transfer me to the retention dept and they waive the fee. It's a game we play. It's fun and I always win. I cannot remember the last time I paid a annual fee.

Does anybody here buy gas or diesel?

Penfed offers a VISA card that gives you 5% back on gas, credited right back to your statement. No BS. No foolin. No limit. Free money

https://www.penfed.org/Platinum-Cash-Rewards/

you have to be a member, but , if you can't find a category to lie about, you can join for $5 ( and make it back on the first fill)

I've been using nothing but an Amex card since 1989. At first it was REALLY hard to find anyone to take Amex. Now, it doesn't seem to happen very often.

I don't leave home without it.

You can't buy wetlands mixes from us with your AE card!

We take MC, Visa and Discover. AE's merchant fees are double what the other cards are. We work on pretty good margins but just can't justify the additional expense for very little inconvenience. I've never had a customer walk out because we didn't take AE, they just whip out another card. Discover has been pretty aggressive in their efforts to get more merchants over the past few years. They really cut back their fees. We got on board with them two years ago.

Incidentally, I prefer to use my AE card whenever possible but Discover has been pretty good. I do have a Capital One card but my credit is so screwed up from past indiscretions so they're reporting habits are hardly a concern.

None of my business James, but you would be best served staying with the debit card. If you MUST have another card make it an American Express. The reason is that you have to pay up every month. No temptation to leave a big balance hangin' so that it can accrue interest at usually EXHORBITANT rates.

You're a smart guy for having nothing more than a debit card, which in effect is an electronic check book.

IMHO, one of the contributing factors to the failing character of America has been the introduction of the Credit Card.

I've never had a need for a credit card. I usually stockpile/sit/horde my cash until I have sufficient to purchase whatever it is that I want/need.

I mean it never made much sense to me.. Oh I can buy up $X worth of things now! YAY! Oh wait, I have to pay you back by a certain date PLUS 20% and if I dont its 20% again on that each month?

I never saw a need (and still dont, outside of building credit) for a credit card.

I would have to agree with you. I believe its a contributing factor.

You're a smart guy James. I operate the same as you, NOW. In the early years of our marriage we borrowed and all that, but worked through it and now operate on the money we have at hand.

My GrandDad built a good size ranching operation by saving up enough money to buy land and then pulled himself up by his boot straps after that. Never borrowed a dime from anyone in his entire life. He was a very smart man.

Union 76 has/had a deal like that. I heard some guys were buying the racing Sunoco fuel and charging it to their work fleet.
