My SLC got hit by a Progressive customer...
Progressive's field agent did an excellent job in assessing the damage on the SLC, getting THEIR repair shop to come up with an estimate and when I showed them MY shop's estimate, they went with mine.
And, when it came time to re-assemble the vehicle and put the R-windshield back in and IT cracked, Progressive paid the full-boat on that, too ($1,300.00 for the glass!!! )!
I'm not sure what the policy-holder had for pre/post-accident premium payments, but he told me that he's had a "few" accidents in the past and that Progressive always came through for him. What that meant, I don't know...either he likes to bleed money (according to some on here) or he knows something about someone in Progressive's hierarchy that they don't want known...

Go figure.

My insurance company? Pekin, out of Pekin, IL.. For both Mercedes, I'm dropping around $370.00 a year, not including collision. Nobody does collision on 10yo or older vehicles...unless you want to pay through the nose for it...

As you folks are well experienced in this.. I have a question, Its not me, but a neighbor.

They have 2 cars, both corollas - and on the policy the drivers are

head of household
wife

they have a 20 yr old son that drives too; and drives everyday. But he is not on the policy. According to the guy - the son is some named driver deal. Which doesnt make sense to me.

Not that I want to bust the guy, but just thinking - is there some loophole that people exercise for their benefit??

To answer how did I get to knowing his policy - My brother would be moving in from out of country, he is also about 20, so I thought I ask the guy how he went and what were the rates.

If the son owns a vehicle that is on his own policy, he's find to drive the parent's cars without being on the policy, providing they claim it's only an occasional thing. However...each state is different on the law.

Prior to my divorce, the "X" and I agreed that she could "have, to drive" the '77 280E, but no one else was to drive the car. I would keep the insurance up for the two of us.

Somewhere, prior to me finishing up the payments on the car to the PO, I decided to check w/my insurance agent to see what amount of liability I would would be responsible for if my STBX (soon-to-be-EX) would let someone else drive the 280E. Here's what I found out...

You are responsible ($$$$$$$) for anything that vehicle does to someone else if it's outside the scope of the policy. Even if you don't want to let anyone else drive the vehicle, if the other person, listed on the policy and title of said vehicle "overrides" your wishes, you may/will still be on the hook.

Needless to say, I managed to get the "X" to sign off on the title when I completed the payments, and since I was the only one on car's title (she was still on the auto policy 'til the divorce was finalized), I was able to "control" who was permissible to drive the car, or not.

I found out that the "X" had let our son drive the car three times during that time...and she KNEW he had no valid license (taken 'cause of unpaid fines and related minutia) and no insurance. Since I only gave HER permission to drive the 280E, and no one else, if there had been an accident/incident and she wasn't the driver, I could, legitimately, claim the vehicle was being operated by another individual, without my consent and that would a situation akin to the vehicle being stolen.

Believe me, this was brought up at the assets portion of the final divorce proceedings. The judgette gave me all the vehicles based on that one fact alone...the "X" showed very poor judgment and didn't see it to be in anyone's benefit that stuff like that should continue. Needless to say (considering I was the only male in that room that day), I was floored.

So, there you have it. CYA and LOFN1. Everyone else needs to look for their own hell, 'cause I ain't inviting you to mine.

My insurance company rewards accordingly.

hmm - but Im positive that the son owns neither of them and they are the only 2 cars in the house, The reason I know is that I sold them the cars when I was working part time at the dealership they bought them from.

anyway - thanks for your input.

Why is car insurance on a 6-month cycle?

So the bastards can raise rates twice as often.

We are all individual cogs with the insurance companies.

The only people who get a break are the execs, because their insurance is covered by the company, but if the insurance people don't fall over backwards for them, then the insurance accounts get moved and that causes the insurance company execs to lose their bonuses..and that means NO NEW YACHT!

Why do you think some companies can muscle banks?

Want to see all those payrolls go through someone else?

So insurance companies help doctors, lawyers and execs. Why do you think MB has a spot on their title page for MR/MRS/MS/DR?

The reason why my wife enjoys 4 points on her driver's license is because of problems she created. Our last week in UT, she was driving the MB back from a trip to see her kids in SoCal. She was driving up through the middle of the state, and decided to step on the accelerator and open it up on a desert road...but the cops were around the bend. She was given a ticket and sent on her merry way. She said that she mailed the ticket and a money order, which we have the stub for, right before we moved.

FF to moving out of the corporate house here in PA to our current residence. She was driving the Lincoln at 0230 and was pulled over doing 8 over. The officer decided to be a bit of an asshat and give her the whole stop...DUI check, question my biracial nephew, etc. My wife decided that she'd had enough of the racial questioning of my nephew, and she started running her mouth, and spouted off at the officer. When he ran her license, it came back as being suspended from UT (which we took care of with a phone call)

When in court for the 4 tickets (speeding, riding the fog line, driving on a suspended license and driving without proof of insurance on hand), the judge sided with the cop...even though we had straightened up the issue in UT, and charged her the hole amount of $865 and change. We left the courthouse headed for the bank for the cash, and brought it all back in unwrapped singles and rolled change...on advise from the bank branch manager. (Apparently this judge was on notice for fixing tickets, siding with the defendant too often, etc.) The officer, who was a new officer for the Township, is no longer employed there...his 4th department in 4 years. I called the Chief of Police, and had it taken care of.

Any way...her record still shows the lack of proof of insurance (which we had in hand at the time of court and the judge refused to see it) driving under suspension, speeding and fog line issue. Those 4 points more than doubled my premium last year...I should have started searching for new coverage back then, but I didn't.

Progressive continues to rob me...

After buying coverage with another company and firing Progressive, Progressive decided to pull another month's worth of premium out of my account. The form that was sent to them expressly forbade them from deducting anymore premiums from my account...it was faxed to them on the 16th. They received it, because they called me to make sure I was in fact firing them. They told me then that my coverage was cancelled and all was well.

I check my account this morning, and saw they didn't honor my wishes. I called them and they said that it was a breakdown in communication on their end, and that I'd have a check sent to me by the end of the month.

I'll never use this company again.

I wonder what in the world she'll do when Progressive doesn't want her any more.
