We straightened some with pretty good success.
Those little grey mowers had the cheapest cranks of all.

Crap. That was typo. The lawn mower is 15 not 25 years old.

reassemble and it should run like a top.

don't lose the gasket that goes between the bowl and the bolt. without it, the gas will leak out. if it is broken, pm me and i will send you one.

I agree...two of the three were that type. Both had small wheels and self propelled. The third was a 6.5 HP B&R push mulcher. After that one died, I turned my back on Crapsman forever.

Our current one is a K-Mart cheapo...which works well enough for us. Prior to that, it was an electric, but the switch failed, and I didn't have time to screw with it, so I sent the wife to get a cheapo.

A few weeks ago we had the huge community garage sales going on in Tarentum, Brackenridge and Natrona Heights, where I picked up a newer used reel mower. The guy was wanting $30, but when I told the guy selling it that it was going to be used as an attitude adjuster for the kids, he dropped the price to $5. I oiled it up and it works great...and the kids are afraid to screw up now. I had them use it last week to do the whole yard...they know they don't want to screw up now.

Well, it worked fine today (must have known we were talking about it ) so I may mess with it tomorrow when I have time.

When this dies and can't be revived I'm going to get a pusher reel mower. I do not like the noise of motors or the stink. They are a PIA to maintain and I could use the exercise. Lawn is pretty small so It would not be to hard.

Used to have a house with a larger lawn. Given the heat here in TX it is hard to be out there in the heat anymore than absolutely necessary. The house we have now has a much smaller yard and it is shaded. I hate using it so I think it's going to be sold or donated a the end of the season. Need to find a decent reel mower.

Guess I must have been strange as a kid. Before my paternal grandfather passed away when I was 8, my grandparents had a really old reel lawnmower. I used to love to have an excuse to make use of (play) with it. Guess a good part of it was my fascination with all the old tools and equipment my grandfather had accumulated on his farm over the decades.

Naturally, my grandfather never attempted to dissuade me of this fascination - especially when it came to mowing his grass!

Everything 2 Cycle I use...

And some of the Nearer Neighbor's lawn equipment would "Suffer" these
ailments.

DAMN 10% Ethanol Blended Crap!

'Used to be SOP to attack the Carb and lines on the Weedeater with Berryman's
B-12 EVERY DAMN TIME I used it,BEFORE I could go out and "Edge",Etc.

Now Enmark (Local wholesale fuel supplier) offers 91 Octane ETHANOL-LESS
Gasoline.

I simply could not believe the Difference in performance using "Straight" Gas!

A four stroke MAY not fuss so much about Ethanol Blends,BUT the 'Lil Two
Cycles act like you've put 100% H2O in the Fuel tank.

We have a Weedeater. I read somewhere that MTD manufactures it. I also read that AYP makes Craftsman mowers. I'm not positive that it's true, but it was a quick search on the 'net.

The reel mower made the yard look really nice...just make sure there are no rocks or stumps in the way. Our yard needs work. It has too many dips and such. When we bought the place, the yard looked like hell. The previous owner had in the past pulled the turf, laid black plastic then put mulch down over the entire yard. Over the years, he gave up caring for it, and weeds took over. The plastic still sticks up on the sides of the yard, and still looks bad. I've been toying with the idea of digging it all up, and starting over from scratch...but at the same time my body takes over and tells me I'm a fool for even thinking of doing that.

I think I'm just polishing a turd with this yard...

OK, finally got around to messing with it some more. Took the carb off and had a looksie. Seems very clean. Pulled the cup thing off and it was clean. No milky residue or any build up that I could see.

The gasket between the carb and motor was shot so I made a temp one out of thin card board. When I put everything back together she cranked right up and promptly died. Repeated several times with the same result. It sounded like it was just running out of fuel. So when I cranked it up again I started hitting the primer bulb and as long as I kept pumping it would keep running. So it runs, the fuel is still good, but it is not drawing fuel. I assume since there is nothing to drive a pump that this is gravity fed. Any idea on a fix? Not sure what else to take apart or clean?

The primer is the black bulb.

I was just thinking. Can I run air through the fuel line to help clear it out?

Clean the part mentioned above. The bolt that holds the fuel bowl on. Clean all 4(four) holes in it. Spray it out with carb cleaner and run a wire brush bristle through it.

What part? The little bowl thing? I had that apart and it was clean. I saw holes in a brass looking thing and I could see day light through the holes.

As for the primer bulb. It does not look like it comes off.

You may see daylight through the holes, but the metering section is located above the holes in the center of the jet. There may also be an idle hole above the threads that goes in at an angle. If you're friendly with your dentist, used RCT files are great for cleaning carburetors. Failing that, a torch tip cleaner will clean the main jet, but may be too large for the idle jet. In that case, use a strand of wire.
