I was listening to WBT AM radio at 3:30 PM, and according to their traffic report, they had various sections of I-77 North and South and I-485 completely blocked off, police stationed on bridges, and most of the DOT traffic cameras turned off, so they could try to keep everyone guessing what his actual route would be.

From what the rest of the traffic report described, it had basically turned Charlotte into one huge traffic jam. Now THERE'S a way to win the hearts and votes of the local populace.

Another goodie is that they've cancelled plans to hold BO's acceptance speech in Ericsson (ie, Panthers) Stadium tomorrow night. Official line is the possibility of inclement weather - but the radio hosts were calling BS on that - saying that the word they've gotten from local Dem party officials is that they couldn't find enough people to fill the 50,000 capacity stadium, and the big boys were worried that a lot of empty seats would look bad on TV - so they decided to move the speech inside a closed venue.

Problem is, there's a lot of people that stood in line for hours over the past couple of weeks to get passes to attend the speech in the stadium - and the closed venue they're moving to is too small to accomodate anywhere near the number of passes they've already given out - so there's likely to be a bunch of people pissed about that as well.

Not a good showing in a state where you're already behind in the polls.

I've watched all the wheeling and dealing going on locally over the past few months since Charlotte got the nod for the convention. I had the read on this quite a while back that it was going to turn into a gigantic cluster, at least from the viewpoint of the people that live in the area - and doesn't look like I was far wrong. There's been more a$$ kissing, deal making, and money swapping hands than a Rear Admiral Selection Board.

Before this, Charlotte was claiming poverty - no money to replace burned-out streetlamps along I-77, closed down several schools due to lack of funds - but suddenly found millions to spend on new gear and new police officers for the convention crowd, and the funds to cover letting the DNC use Ericsson Stadium free and gratis for BO's speech.

Just get it over with and get them the hell out of town so we can get things back to normal around here.
I was wondering about this. When I went to Savannah, Ga earlier this year, we purposely planned part of the drive to go through Charlotte to see the speedway and have lunch with an old classmate of mine...he kept talking about how the area was in a financial funk, and different places that have shuttered their doors since 2006.

I thought for sure that they would have decided on a swing state, like Ohio, in hopes of swaying the vote...it would have made more sense.

If you think Pelosi has a first rate brain then that explains your mentality. I offer your favorite democrat quote as a prime example- pretty much says I'll let the government give me the stuff I want but have not earned. That's how those that wish for stuff but have not figured out that hard work and smart work will bring it.

First rate brains that are attuned to the non tax paying moochers of this country in order to buy their votes with the money from the other half that work for a living and pay taxes.

In order to live like a Repulican people need to learn how to make do, do without, fix things up, and wear things out. I for one, am sick and tired of having to pay more than my fair share of taxes and then turn around and see the results.

I was at an equipment auction last month, and my "D" city was auctioning several mint condition three year old Ford F250 pickups with less than 50k miles. The only thing wrong with them was that the warranty had run out.

The father of the gopher that works for me, decided that at 52 years of age he was tired of working , and got on disability with the help of one of the numerous attorneys the specialize in that kind of law. He now gets an EBT card for food, an SSI diability check(for lower back pain), a free govt supplied cell phone with 250 minutes/month, and 75 Oxycontin pills a month courtesy of the taxpayers. He sells all the pills to junkies, and still works as a carpenter when he feels like it. Somehow, he also has money for an iphone, cable tv, and just bought a second car for 3k cash off craigslist.

The downfall started with Lyndon Johnson and his welfare reforms.....Obama and the rest of the D's simply poured rocket fuel on the fire that already was burning.

OK, I'll say it. YOU are part of the problem. You know about it, yet you do nothing but sit on a forum and ***** about it.
We had a similar situation with a "retired" fireman out on disability retirement, driving around in a new corvette and having another job building additions.
I wrote a letter and turned his ass in and he was investigated and his benefits were cut down to a little more than half of what they were.
All it takes is a well written letter and copied to the right multiple people.
It has to be to multiple people, so they all see that others are copied on it, so they are forced to do something. If it is one person, nothing happens.
You have to contact people on "both sides of the aisle".
Oh, and for the record, I volunteer with the local fire dept. Bull**** abuse is bull**** and it costs us all.

This is me. We don't have a vehicle newer than 1991, and that one was bought for $125. I look at the DNC delegates and wonder how many of them (or people like them) I am supporting.

On the other hand, I just don't get why Romney and the Republicans insist that the top dogs need more tax breaks.

Let them eat cake! If they don't like it where are they going to go- Sweden? They keep saying increasing tax rates on the top earners won't help much with the deficit. So - go deeper. They haven't done anything constructive with the breaks they have gotten in the last 30 years. I am sick of it.

The middle class is an endangered species.

The last thing I am going to do is to rat out a white trash scumbag like this because it's my duty to do so as a good citizen. If the overpaid and lazy morons that gave him all of this new "wealth" could not properly vet him out, then why should I put myself at risk by signing my name to a letter that will be a public record?

How did I become part of the problem simply because I became aware of this? I have no proof that he is cheating the system, but he sure will have proof that I wrote a letter if I do what you suggest.

Posting on the interweb is one thing, but sending multiple letters accusing someone of fraud is something else.

The irony is, that the guy would probably find an attorney to sue me for slander and defamation of charcter, Thereby, reducing that amount of time I have to earn money to send to the govt so that they can give people like this a handout. So, in effect, what you suggest would likely be counterproductive in the grand scheme of things.

Clear budget? Don't bet on hearing that!

Romney's plan will cost you $2000 more a year in taxes if you are average. Of course he will lower his own taxes.

Do you have a copy or a link to his plan and how it does this?
