BTW, I HATE communists: always have, always will. Their beliefs are the anthesis of freedom of man..... sold as freedom from oppression. the perfect lie.

Isn't that the Democratic Party Platform?

the question you should be asking yourself is "at what cost to American freedoms?"

How would the HUAC (unaffiliated with Mccarthy) be compared with the NKVD, the SS, or the KGB, or any other form of thought police?

The second question is what level of thought makes you a communist, and at what point are communist thoughts suddenly UnAmerican? Last I checked, you could believe whatever the hell you wanted. Being a communist in those days should not have been the same as being caught committing treason.
We forget that less than 5 years prior, it was fashionable to be positive about the Russians, as they were are allies then. Yet during the years of Mccarthyism, they had directors or wartime propaganda films that celebrated the Russians up on the stand. What was American 5 years ago, was suddenly not American

Don't you see how people who were exercising their rights to freedom were penalized for exercising those rights, regardless of actual treasonish behavior.

Sure, a few people who WERE guilty of treason were found, but thousands more were punished for being of a school of thought, which suddenly became "un American"

Who knows? The Democratic Party Platform document is so closely guarded, it would be easier to learn the latest NORAD DEFCON password.

That said though, your statement seems quite plausible!

The point im trying to make, is that McCarthy's witch hunt made him closer to communism and restriction of freedom of man, than any of the communist's he was actually chasing.

He with the Senate PSI, and the House HUAC were so afraid of communism that they actively made themselves closer to certain restrictive aspects of communist rule.

However, having said that, The only belief that Ben Stein does not currently hold that would put him way over on the right side is the belief that Christ was not the Messiah.

That pretty much puts him out of the running for RWNJ, I personally see him as a religious and social conservative.
He hasn't said, but I assume I'm on ignore. He only comments on anything I say if it's quoted by someone else as far as I can see. I am quite sure he's doing this because he's terrified he'll flame out yet again, hasn't the huevitos or self control to conduct well reasoned discussions without losing it. It's cowardly behavior. Spouts all his absurd platitudes and then hides behind Doodsky's skirts.

I actually like reading Ben Stein, though I often disagree with him. He seems lately to be going further and further around the bend. Do these people drink from a different water supply or something?

It annoys me how cowardly and childlike that behavior is. He should be ashamed of himself, especially if he is close to the man he repeatedly claims he is.

Someone who is honest and has integrity wouldn't spend a large part of their day posting unsupported nonsense and running off and hiding. Those are not the actions of a courageous individual. One who would stand up for his beliefs and discuss them with others.
Trying to understand what a person does for their sense of worth or self-esteem is quite a task; trying to change it . . . well, that takes a lot of time, effort and at the end of the day, you have to ask "what for?"

I only reply to intelligently written or plausible posts. For those who think that I'm ignoring them, maybe they need to step up their game if they want me to reply.

HAHAHAHA holy crap Larry that is the funniest thing I've read all week! You refuse to respond to intelligently written posts when they form logical and discussion-worthy arguments against your views. Time to back up the above statement!

If the rest of us adopted your high standards, your threads would die on the vine.
