Last Thoughts?

Now that it's all over but the crying, hopefully a definite victory for one side or the other without a repeat of 2000, any last thoughts or predictions before the polls close in about 18 hours and the results start coming in?

I would ask that everyone keep in mind Roy's wishes, and try to keep it civil - nothing to be gained at the last minute rehashing the same arguments - not like we're going to decide the outcome of the election here in OD.

At that, for my own part, here and now I'll offer up my humble apologies if I've angered or offended anyone over the past few months in any of the threads discussing this election, and politics in general.

My overall feelings on this election echo Roy's, and from what I've gathered, a few other people's as well - I can't remember an election where such poor choices for candidates were put forward by BOTH major parties - it's as if both parties have colluded to put forward any hack they want that will serve THEIR agendas, and the rest of us have little choice but to hold our noses and pick between the two - the only choice being whether we want red-colored or blue-colored horses*** served to us for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the next four years.

That's part of the reason I voted L this time around - not just for Johnson, but for every slot that had an L candidate listed, down to the local level. I was bloody tired of holding my nose and voting for the perceived lesser of two evils, voting for someone I knew was going to do a piss-poor job - just because the other guy looked even worse. I knew Johnson didn't stand a snowball's chance of winning, but that didn't matter - for ONCE, I voted for someone I AGREED with and actually WANTED to see get the job - and it felt DAMN GOOD. Somewhat of a "liberating" experience, if you'll pardon the pun.

I'm not playing THEIR game any more.

As far as how tonight's election results will go -

From what I've heard, watch Pennsylvania - if Willard manages to flip this state, and he does it in a decisive way such that it's called for him early on - around 9 PM predicted from a couple different sources - then I'd bet that it's game over for Obama.

If Obama holds onto PA, then it's a slugging match in the swing states. IMO, only Ohio and possibly VA are still in doubt - for my money, FL and NC will be Romney. As BC has said, if Obama gets Ohio and PA, it's four more years.

And if I get any of these predictions right, my next trick will be to get my dog to start crapping gold kruggerands.

Well I voted third party one time and like you it felt good on election day. Unfortunately it turned out bad. I soon seriously regretted throwing away my vote & the result was bad for the country. I sincerely hope the long term of it turns out better for you than it did for me.

All the best!

Aww, shucks! I thought this was going to be "Last Thoughts" such as, "Say, look at all those dolphins swimming to meet us on our scuba diving expedition" kind of thread.

Talk on OD is cheap.
Exercise the franchise and VOTE--even if you disagree with me--still vote.

If it didn't matter, then why would everyone be spending so much money on it?

In MD, mt presidential vote will likely not matter too much, but there are seven State-wide ballot questions, and some of them are predicted to be very close. The majority party has gerrymandered the districts beyond all reasonable boundaries--I ill vote against their proposed map. The legislature voted to give children of illegal immigrants in-state tuition rates at State colleges ( yet legal citizens from neighboring states are forced to pay the full load--we are already a Sanctuary State, and the illegals cost all of us enough already). We have a referendum to decide that matter. And the issue of casinos with table games also appears on the ballot--the gaming interests (both inside the State, and surrounding States) have "invested" tens of millions in advertising on both sides of the issue--and the Owners will benefit either way.
VOTE!

No voter ID is ALLOWED in MD. All you need to do is show up and claim to be someone registered, and provide a name and address.

Yes. Democrats, LISTEN UP! Don't miss your chance to vote, Tuesday, November 7th. It's your DUTY!

I'm joking too!

I spent several election cycles as Election Judge. In that capacity I did EVERYTHING possible to see that everyone who could vote legally got to vote.

I STILL feel FIRMLY that EVERYONE should vote. I encourage anyone and everyone to GO VOTE. Even if every single one of you will be voting the opposite of myself, I sincerely want to see you VOTE!

Go DO IT!

You did not throw your vote away on a 3rd party. If more people felt less like that and were willing to vote that way the 3rd party people may still not be winning every office, but the 2 common parties would certainly be taking note that people realizing there are more than 2 options.

In that particular case I did INDEED throw away my vote that might have helped to prevent what followed in one of the worst administrations of my lifetime.

You really think Johnson stands a chance to pull EC votes from Rmoney? I doubt it. Johnson has received almost no MSM coverage, and wasn't invited to debate.

Besides, even if Perot did* ruin Bush's chances in 92. Clinton turned out to make a fine republican president. There are a lot worse things that've happened to our country in my life than the Clinton terms.

* He didn't. Although he got 19% of the popular vote, Perot didn't get a single EC vote. Clinton won the election 370 - 168 - 0 (43%, 38%, 19%)

I hear you. Unfortunately, in some districts those votes would still count!~

It occurs to me that much of my anti-democrat bile comes from living in a democrat-controlled State. I recognize that for some of you, the situation is reversed--you live in Republican- controlled States and see the corruption that results. It just demonstrates that one party control---ANY one party control is essentially corrupt. We need competition at all levels.

Competition for money, competition of ideas, balance across the legal system that is supposed to protect the rights of the minorities ( races, as well as political parties), and a free press holding all politicians accountable for their actions are the elements required for the democrat republic to function.

I find it interesting to read where the folks affected by Sandy can fax or email their votes in. I would think that that type system would be wide open for problems.
