I drove by the D headquarters in a nearby town here alittle while ago and it was loaded down with ppl. I guess when you are unemployed you can hang out at the headquarters of your choice all day.

I just saw this and am of the opinion that it is not a good thing but what do I know.

Here in NC it's been a mixed bag as far as how smoothly the early voting operations have went.

There's the thread and quoted news article about the "recalibration" troubles they had in the Greensboro area with electronic voting machines.

By contrast, my friend who lives on the south side of Charlotte, where they've used the same machines for 2 or 3 elections now, reported no problems at all with the machines or check-in process, an hour-long wait simply due to the number of people that showed up that day.

In my county, they still use a paper ballot and electronic scanner, similar to what pjcoll described. Very well run and highly organized, they were cycling thru people at a good clip. This year for the first time, they were using laptop computers to access the voter registration records, instead of having to dig thru the actual paper records - date of birth, full name, current address - and once verified, a printer to the side kicked out a paper ballot specifically for your local district within the county. IMO, the best of both worlds - an actual paper ballot as hard proof of how everyone voted, and using electronics to speed up and aid the process - with immediate access to the state records to help clear up any local questions.

All the best!
Quite a large number of my Texas friends voted Libertarian this time around. Like many others they are simply disenchanted with the offerings of the current 2 party system. Their goal is to give the L party enough votes to reach the threshold for federal election funding and to be invited to the debates. Basically, they want to create a viable 3rd party. Given that Texas electoral votes are a foregone conclusion, I don't see any downside. I do agree with Larry, '92 was a unique election in which Perot pulled enough votes from GHWB that Clinton won only 43% of the popular vote yet accrued 370 electoral votes.

I don't have a problem with the Black Panthers or the retired SEALS or anyone else monitoring polling places, as long as it's done in a legal manner.

Perhaps I should have added a request for no PERSONAL arguments or name-calling as well.

While we all know which side of the political house Larry's bread is buttered on, and that may have colored his remarks in said post not to other's liking - the basic idea expressed is quite true - those states are already a foregone conclusion to one side or the other, in this case Obama, the majority that great - such that any problems due to the storm and e-mail voting will hopefully have minimal effect on the credibility of the outcome.

Had those been toss-up states - the lawyers from both sides would already be filing the court challenges as we speak.

Cullen,

I think you are looking for something in that post that just wasn't there. I in no way meant anything derogatory. I was simply, and I thought nicely, saying that those states are democratic states anyway, and they will go democratic no matter what. I didn't call democrats names. I didn't say anything bad about those states being red. I simply stated what is seemingly obvious.

Additionally, it would be nice if you did NOT refer to me with a derogatory nickname.

Thanks and have a great election day.

Well gents, time for me to get ready to head off to work.

Hopefully by the time I get off at 12:30 AM, this will all be over and settled definitively, ie, no extra income for the lawyers.

Best wishes to all, no matter who you're pulling for.

From this are we to understand that unemployment only affected supporters of the Dems?

Well, I'll also be winning $50 for a charity of my choice after Obama is declared the winner. I made this arrangement last Fall I think, but it might have not been that long ago.

yeah, but if either group is milling around with clubs and intimidating people, they need to GTFO.

Any ****er who trys to keep me from exercising my right to vote, no matter what their affliation is, is going to be greatly surprised, and not in a good way.

It hasn't been proven that the Panthers or SEALs or whoever are intimidating anyone, but even if it were, the law has remedies for such behavior. Assaulting someone because you feel they're trying to keep you from exercising your right to vote isn't justified, and if you choose to do so, I think you're the one who'll be in for a surprise.

But hey, go ahead -- maybe we'll see you on the news.
