Yes, I know about Sherman and his treatment of SC. When I was in Lancaster, Oh. a few years back, it was all I could do to keep from pissing on the statue of him they have in the town square.
Could the government figure out who signed and harrass them? Sure. Would they? No.
Is the country really that polarized? Mostly in the view of the folks who make money telling us how polarlized we are. I don't think there is anyone on this board or in the country that fits as neatly in the left/Right slots the media and demagogues claim. Practically everyone on this board enjoys wrenching on an MB. We already have a lot in common. Probably more than we think. I would work on a Benz or sit down and have a beer with anyone on this board, wouldn't you?

You're just flat wrong. Napolitano was an extraordinarily popular governor. The first AZ Democratic governor to win re-election in more than two decades. In state polls of the time, she was always neck and neck at the top of the heap with Sheriff Blowhard. She left the gov's office at the behest of President Obama. Whether she's good at DHS is another matter, but "ridden out of Zonieland on a rail"? Not hardly. Perhaps you'd do well to stick to spouting off about states you maybe know something about.

In any movie, book, or series about the end of the world or the US breaking up Texas always comes out pretty good.

I forget the series but one explained it like this: When the end came Texas did ok, because its rural, they had lots of guns, lots of people who like using guns, and a governor who wasn't afraid to aggressively deploy the National Guard.

So when the world ends I'm going to Texas.

It wouldn't matter who seceded, Maryland would remain the bluest of blue states. Since it almost surrounds the Capitol would you expect it any other way? Wish the Capitol had stayed in Philly!
