What has happened to the Republican party?! I used to be proud to be one. I gave them money and whatever other support I could offer.

Now, they behave and speak so shamefully, I would not want to be associated with them any more. That doesn't mean I'm a fan of the Democrats, either, though. I find it really hard to see anybody in the current American politiical landscape I would consider a statesman or very honorable at all.

May as well add disabled persons around the world to the list that the Republicans seem to have alienated. When Bob Dole's personal appearance in the Senate chamber can't persuade them, it's still the "Party of No"

Being a member of a Party doesn't necessarily mean you support the dork of the Party's choosing...

It should mean that you support the PRINCIPLES of what the Party was founded on and most still believe in.

As has been proven, the Parties today don't resemble, let alone practice, anything that they profound to preach.

The grassroots parts of the parties may be beholden to the priciples, but once you get above the "locals" - then all bets are off.

Maybe the best thing is: Call in the UN. Why? 'Cause that's the way we're heading and since we made the reservations in the middle and all around our country, we've given "special status" to a segment of our society that is populated by the same type of folks that are all around this day...citizens of the US...not invaders or explorers...just folks that were born within the borders of the US.

If you want to continue to carry on with the nonsense that the reservations are "special zones" and whatnot, with "their own" special rules and such, then you better get ready to turn Detroit over to the Muslims and their Mullah-nuts real soon. They're "special" aren't they???

I'm surprised that nutiness hasn't gotten traction yet.

Seems to me the republicans have traveled farther from their ideals than others.

I think trying to equate Muslims and Natives as being the same in some manner is a false equivalent. The Natives were here first, long before the round eye, Muslims were not. We have countless treaties with the Natives of this country (most of which have been abrogated by the US). No such treaties exist with the Muslims in the US. There are numerous other differences but you get the point.

The problem?

The voting booth.

We can vote in anyone (idiots aren't excluded) and THEY in turn, write up the legislation about who, what, where and how much we, the people, have to put up with the nonsense.

Eventually, one person will feel that he/she has been wronged by this legislation (or lack thereof) and it's off to court they go.

Then the "special" part kicks in.

Muslims will feel that "their religion" isn't being treated properly and within time, you'll have "sharia" and the like being forced onto the majority by the minority.

Or, haven't anyone been paying attention to the past 40-50 years of the civil rights movement?

I think we should have a law in which all laws are enforced equally without regard to any characteristics of the persons. You know, the blindfold thingie on the statue. Blind justice.

There's a problem if your case involves 27 8x10 glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one . . .

Now that the it's been determined that anyone opposing the granting of special expanded authority to prehistoric, aboriginal, patriarchal, superstitious, clannish backwards tribal justice is a misogynist bigot, maybe the time has come to examine how that practice has working out so far?

Maybe we can shed some light on how the tribal justice worked out for individuals who have long been subjected to its jurisdiction. Indian children living on indian reservations who are victims of sexual abuse and assault by other indians living on indian reservations all of whom are under the tribal justice jurisdiction and adjudication.

And we can all believe it is the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth because it 's being reported in the NYT, the same liberal rag of record which is cited as the reporting source in the OP's original HuffPo article;

So when indians have administered tribal justice with regard the sexual abuse of indian children by other indians on reservation has been determined by the federal government and the NYT liberal rag of record, to be a criminal failure of striking proportions; people who disagree that the expansion of tribal justice is the response to sexual abuse of indian women by indians and non-indians on reservations are vilified.

Expanding the authority to administer justice to prehistoric, aboriginal, patriarchal, superstitious, tribal clans who have historically viewed even their own family's women and children as property and second class citizens is the answer to a problem of the current posturing administration's continued failure to enforce already existing law?



I wonder how many ponies and sheep someone is fined for raping children on the reservation? I wonder if a pale face could substitute quad runners and lawn mowers if he doesn't have any livestock?
