I'm not even a dad and I'm reeling from it.

At some level of abstraction I suppose I can comprehend becoming so hopeless that suicide seems a "rational" choice. But why such people must go on a rampage and kill a bunch of innocent people -- and particularly small children -- is just utterly incomprehensible.

And in a small town like that, the holidays are going to forever be marred by this tragedy.

Strange times we live in. Enough to make you want to conceal carry sometimes.

Last time I checked, kindergarten kids were not eligible for CCW permits... even in Florida.

I understand the gun owners desire to keep their weapons and their 'right' to such, but these kind of events elevate the need to seriously discuss the nature of firearms and their sale in this country.

We could go on about how there are other methods, and that is a valid point, but the simple fact is firearms fall too easily into the hands of deranged whack jobs in our country. I would venture that a much smaller percentage would take the time and effort required to utilize different methodology.

First step should be to eliminate the handgun. No sales to private citizens anywhere, for any reason. If you need to carry to protect yourself, get a shotgun. Can't argue with the deterrent factor. (flame suit on...)

I just had dinner in Sandy Hook around the corner from this school last week and was at the time commenting on how nice the area looked at night.

I'm keeping a very close eye on this. I've been reading comments to news stories and am amazed at just how fast many were to blame firearms, instead of the moron holding the gun.

More stringent gun control won't stop this from happening...take the guns away, and they'll go for knives. Take the knives away, and they'll go for bats. It doesn't take much for some people to go off the deep end, but there will always be a way for death and destruction to happen.

Why does an elementary school have six or seven garage doors?

There is a fire station right across the street that many kids were evacuated to, that might be what you saw? I'm not sure.
