this is the paradox of believing ones own beliefs and those that think the same are the only correct ones

I believe Jesus was an unusually smart guy with something jumbled up in his mind. Certainly he was egotistical if the stories are to be believed, yet there was obviously no psychiatric research in his day. In short, the world's greatest troll.

If you're going to quote me, quote it ALL, rather than taking part of it out of context. In this thread I made it clear that I was saying that SOME, I might have even used the word MANY atheist/agnostics do this.

The part that puzzles me is that if they believe in NOTHING, why bother to try to push NOTHING off on others?

Honestly; Why not tell the most important message ever straight from the 'horses mouth'???

And Paul never even saw Jesus except on the alleged vision on Damascus road....why was Paul such an authority on Jesus?

And God is Love?

Why do we argue & fight over the invisible, intangible and un-measurable?
Maybe it is like the kid that promises the folks that he will take care of the puppy if they buy him one. Sure, for a bit he does but after a while, he gets bored and the puppy is forgotten.

Assuming that story is true, Paul, aka Saul was coerced into compliance. Kinda like the mafia tying you to a chair and beating you till you agree to comply with their "requests".

Not if you look at the Old Testament. Kill your son to prove belief, don't do this? I'll kill you. Get ahead too far? Tower of Babel. But wait, the NT says something different. Whoops, see above about Saul. Thanks but no thanks.

Because there are those that think they need the crutch

Better response would be, since I've done behavioral research, spent time in psych labs (as well as those who are close to me would be considered experts in areas of the field) its entertaining to look at historical figures like this this through the light of modern knowledge.

^ this pretty much sums it up. You're trying to change people's minds? Then lambast atheists and agnostics for the same?

Why do you support congresspeople that try to interfere in gays when you are not gay and nobody gay is forcing you to join in the festivities?

that quote is your entire post. If you are going to get angry, I suggest you review what you actually said first.

I bolded the first part yes, but the entire quote is there.

first statement of yours-

Quote:
I've always found the world of many atheists/agnostics to be quite interesting. Although I rarely hesitate to state my opinions on things, I've never been one to try to push my religious beliefs off on others, except for a few, rare, close and personal conversations.

The world of atheists/agnostics OTOH seems to contain many people who REALLY put forth a case for why others should join him in his disbelief. If you don't believe, FINE, have at it.

It just seems very odd that many of those who do NOT believe are so BENT on trying to convince others not to.

Just sayin'.
second statement of yours-

Quote:
I can't speak for others desire to "push" their belief on other people. I only know of my OWN activity in this regard.
you don't see the hypocrisy here? On one hand you make a broad claim that those who are athiest try to push it on others as a general rule, on the other hand you say you cant speak for others desire to push their belief on other people.

You contradicted yourself, and moreover, your initial comment flys in the face of recorded history of people butchering each other trying to push religious belief systems on each other

It is not like you to avoid answering a question and wiggling around it instead. I asked you if I PERSONALLY have ever tried to convert yo to my belief.

Have I supported officials that believe the same things that I do? YES! Why would I NOT do that? Would it make more sense to you if I were to vote FOR someone who promotes things that I do not agree with? That's a pretty absurd tact for you to expect anyone to follow. Have I ever lambasted you for voting for someone who promotes something that I do NOT agree with? I don't THINK so.

TBO,

Your reading skills are almost always very impressive, but you sure missed it THIS time.

Please show me in the writing that you quoted where I was trying to convince ANYONE of ANYTHING. Saying that I can not do something means that I am trying to do that?

You're REALLY slipping.
