You could use the kick start motorcycle to pull start a 123 diesel.

Many, many antibiotic-resistant originate in SE Asia. Strongest evidence is that people take antibiotics as prophylaxis which is a tool for natural selection for disease resistance.

Most western countries have a gatekeeper which, even if lax, is better than OTC demand-based dispensing of antibiotics.

This probably doesn't come as a surprise to most of you but I am generally unsympathetic to gov/bureaucratic controls. But to me, there is a fundamental role of gov in sanitation and disease control. Antibiotics fall under the latter.

I am not totally sure, but I think the first reported case of MRSA was in 1961 in England. There is a VRSA (scary) that came up in Japan in the mid 90's.

At one time they said MRSA was limited to places like hospitals and ICU wards. I think it is sometimes refered to as the superbug.

It is all over the place now, though and has been classified as hospital acquired and community acquired. Prevalent in places like prisons and sports complexes and probably anywhere that is crowded and provides a good environment for it to survive.

I read a story about a guy that kept getting sick and finally figured out that this MRSA was in his house. They washed everything...did'nt work, he got sick again. They threw out furniture beds, etc. and bought new stuff...got sick again. Eventually they sold the house....cause he kept having this stuff reaquire.

This superbug made the front page of our newspaper several years ago for 1 day and then vanished.....never heard anything about it in the mainstream media again. It was like someone quashed publication of such to prevent panic. I do notice huge bulletins in the Doctors side of our university hospital hallways about MRSA....When I say huge bulletins...I mean 4 foot by 8 foot graphs and charts and different treatments for the stuff. From what I have heard there is only a handful of drugs that they can use to kill this stuff and it is feared that when the staph builds up immunity to it we will have VRSA. Last I heard nothing kills that stuff.

And that's only here and in other advanced (wealthy) nations. It's a sobering topic. Some crowded refugee camps in many locations. Could be a sort of horrible great die-off in the works, not something I'd want to be a part of but I doubt most of us will have much choice in the matter.

The places to which you accurately refer and describe, are also a source of disease resistant bacteria: Give the patient more and better antibiotics because you can't sanitize the facility.

Please note--this thread started with a FOX news citation. I am shocked! shocked! that some of you paid any attention to it. I thought that nothing on Fox was to be believed.

I was just in Mexico for a week where you can buy anti-biotics over the counter. Same as in '76 when I last spent a length of time there. And there plenty of countries about that are primitive compared to Mexico.

Phage; The Virus that Cures - YouTube

The rich keep getting richer and the poor can suck ditch water and die.

Your premises are wrong and your beliefs will likely take years off of your useful life.

The OP is about a viral infection so we have an apples and oranges thing going on here too.

One might be tempted to notice that they cite the terrorists and dictators as the underlying cause in the Middle East, and completely fail to report cases which have occurred outside the Arabian Peninsula.....

Even when they start with a legitimate nugget of news, they just can't help but inject the spin.
