I won't push either way but will say this....going back to your old employer would not put me off much. Your new one cut your pay is a pretty good reason to leave, and going back to your old employer proves they liked your work.

One could always emulate Paul Simon and lie, lie, lie like a boxer on the resume. The middle job never existed, or perhaps was only a term contract.

Everybody expects you to present the facts about yourself as positively as possible. Lying though if discovered can cost you your job....besides being a bad idea in general.
I cannot understand how a man with so many good ideas as Spdrun can be so nasty for no reason.

Thank you all for the valuable feedback...this is what I needed. I forgot to mention, my old job is very flexible, while my current job is a typical cubicle environment for the days that I'm in the office. At my old job I can make my own hours, as long as I complete the review within the deadline; also, at my old job I was teleworking around 25% of the time, while the rest of the time was flexed out. The only downside is overnight travel, which averages about 8 weeks per year.
Well I'm leaning towards returning to my old employer, but I will probably give my current employer plenty of notice and complete all my assignments before I leave. Thanks again!

Truthfully, I've always found auditing boooooring. Full of GAAS! ![]() ![]() Of course, I refer to audits of financial statements of private companies. I don't know what "auditing" you do for these financial institutions, but it goes without saying in today's post SOX world auditors will never, and I mean never, lack for work. I signed my last audit report about four years ago and don't regret giving up audit work in the least. ![]() Don't discount the cover a group health plan can provide you and your family as we head into the uncharted waters of Obamacare. (I don't recall you mentioning your current health ins. coverage) Don't ignore the 401-k benefits either. Save or perish. Take the money & run. If the company is small enough, that match % may increase with profitability. My firm matched 50 cents on the dollar. ![]() Only downside I'm seeing is the 2 months away from home. Traveling will get old just as you will, especially with children. Good luck.

Better benefits is a good thing. I would trade some improvement in benefits in lieu of a small pay raise.

And what happens if you get caught? I know I'd fire the guy INSTANTLY regardless, on principle. Why? Because if he can lie to get out of a tight situation, there is no telling when he would lie to me. Before you lie, I can give you the benefit of the doubt. Once you lie, well, you removed all doubt. Now if I keep you, I have this "Sword of Damocles" hanging around all day long. Thanks but no thanks.

Two weeks is pretty much the professional standard but that will go a long way towards easing any possible hard feelings that might linger.

You're right Dynalow, typical audit work is boring. I do a bit of both - audit/transaction testing, and also some risk management, which is frankly more enoyable than just auditing.
Thanks aklim - yes, I'll only put in my notice at the present employer once I have an offer letter in my hand. Thanks again for the useful comments.

I am not talking to you about morality. Lying is bad from a practical standpoint.

It's all up to one's interpretation. If a lie is not proven to be a lie, then it's not a lie. Not to be judged by others, since it may not be a lie OR bad to the person telling it. It's either rumor, misunderstood, envy, or character assassination at work against the individual. Whether or not it's moral, doesn't really matter I suppose. Every man for himself.
