Well that was a very advanced society if they had a Walmart! But had they developed a little critter Mercedes Benz?

Depends on how well trained the pets and kids...and Clk Man...is.

Carpet has seemed to fall out of favor in recent years.

I think the "golden years" of carpeting was probably due to the sort of insulation properties carpeting offered over cold bare wood flooring...especially in the days where home insulation technology was far from what is available today.

And I remember having replaced carpet in an older home, and during removal, the installer called me over and pointed out virgin, unspoiled wood flooring underneath!

I would like to not have to replace carpeting in our current home. Unfortunately, carpet damage due to kids and pets usually occurs in the earlier years of ownership...

The color and equivelant grain pattern is not particularily pleasing to me. But the stuff is hard as nails in comparison to most common hardwoods. I was just wondering if bamboo laminate was a real layer of bamboo or just printed on in some fashion?

The thing about carpet is this: The moment you install it, it begins to deteriorate and you begin to spend money trying to postpone it's ultimate demise. Meantime, it's outgassing delightful VOCs for the first 3-5 years that are burrowing into your liver, and providing habitat for lots of lovely critters who have, apparently, no place else to live other than your mattress. Architectural cement, stone and tile for me. Around here, ceramic tile is an immediate 5 buck a square foot increase to an appraisal. Carpet? Not.

Standard bamboo is toward the softer side on the Janka scale. Strand woven bamboo is what you want for hardness and stability. Woven Bamboo Flooring Hardness Ratings | Green Flooring Q&A

Yes, I agree. Ditch the carpet. Wood or bamboo flooring is not very difficult to install but it is labor intensive.

If you still want the noise/heat insulation benefits of carpet, you can buy area rugs.

I will admit to liking the feel of carpet when I walk barefoot on it better than other flooring types, but when I found out about all the things that like to live in it, I decided I'd rather have tile or hardwood or something, if given the choice.
