This past weekend my close friend was meeting his ex wife to pick up his 5yo daughter at the grocery store parking lot. The mother, distracted by her cell phone walked a fair bit away from the car with the daughter in the back seat. A stranger took this opportunity to try to abduct the girl. Unfortunately for this scumbag, my friend was walking up at the same time and proceeded to beat the ever-loving shlt out of him, breaking the dirtbag's back in the process, until an officer arrived and drew his weapon.

My friend was handcuffed and sat in the back of the cruiser. Meanwhile the stranger, with no id gave a false name. The officer proceeded to fingerprint him and it came back that he was a convicted pedophile from Utah. My friend was then released and the scumbag was handcuffed instead. I'll leave out a few details from there. The next day the officer came by my friends house to inform him the scumbag died on the operating table that night.

Expecting the worst, my friend prepared to surrender himself to the officer. Instead of arresting him the officer shook his hand and called him a hero.

Tell your friend to say 3 "Hail Mary" prayers, take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning.

Still, the cop had more stones than I would to congratulate him. I'd never do that myself as long as I am in an official capacity. Buying him a drink after hours, definitely.

The police exist to provide for our security and protection. Your tax dollars pay for protection from the bad guys. When faced with a threat to yourself or your family, best to call the police. If a cop shoots and kills a bad guy, the cop will get two weeks paid administrative leave while the "incident" is checked out. OTH, if YOU shoot and kill a bad guy, there exists the possibility you may find yourself on the receiving end of charges ranging from manslaughter to murder one.

Good point. You wait and let us know if it works out. Better yet, you go test the theory now. Go find a bar with a bad crowd and provoke the biggest, meanest looking person you can find. Then call the cops to protect you. Do put it on youtube, especially when they are kicking the hell out of you.

This story smells like urban myth or [FWD] to me. Surely it made the local news. Give us a link.

If we truly possess the power and more importantly, the RIGHT to defend ourselves and our families from attackers, why have the police at all? After all, in most incidents like the OP, they merely show up after the smoke clears and write up an "incident" report and/or arrest the "bad" guys.

Best they may want to get acquainted, since the cop will be called as a witness in the possible upcoming wrongful dead civil suit against the man that did the beating of the poor dead man, by his devoted family survivors filing the suit.
