I’m familiar with some on another forum that are similar. They are in their 70s or so and are among most adamant right wingers one could come across. They never put forth an argument that is supported by facts and evidently live to bash the other side. They are predictable and relentless antagonists who spend most of their days and nights on the web, on one forum. Air& is evidently cut from the same cloth. I understand the web provides an outlet for all of us, but I don’t understand why some seemingly live only to antagonize. It clearly reflects a need for conflict, but to what end? |

I was thinking he should join the Independent Order of Oddfellows in Paris Tx but......
although he's really ...uh, i dont think he would fit. ![]() Junior Odd Fellows Throughout most of the free world is an organization known, loved and respected for the great good it has done for those in need and for its humanitarian efforts to make the entire world a better place to live. The Independent Order of Odd Fellows is truly an organization which believes and practices the axiom, "Am I my Brother's Keeper?" The Three Links represent a worldwide chain that binds men, women and the youth of our organization together in fraternal devotion to God and their fellow man. The three links, representing: Friendship, Love and Truth, are the cornerstone upon which the Odd Fellows (and their various auxiliaries, Rebekah’s, Jr. Odd Fellows, Theta Rho Girl’s Club) of the world have built their Order. |

One clue for me was this line: "the viciousness put forth by Pannzer," this in the second thread. 'Vicious' is a favorite adjective of Hannity. It's no secret I don't like Hannity. I think his influence on the world is not good. He creates an ongoing drama where he and the faithful, the chosen, stand steadfastly against a world of evil that is bent on using and corrupting all that is good and holy. It's sorta like their goodness and purpose is only possible because of the evildoers, who are always liberals.

Picture yourself as the leader of something. In my case it was a bunch of oil refineries, pipeline, oil tankers and at any one time about 1,500 people. I did deals that would hit in the tens of millions every day and then have to put up with being called up at all hours of the night. It was my job, it was not my life, and although a lot of big time economics comes easy to me I am no longer in a position to rock anyone's world. And that works for me! But it does not work for a lot of people. They miss that power and the ability to call the airport and tell some jerk of a Pilot to torch up the jet because they had to go to California and see an Arab Sheik in Malibu. Just talking to the Oil Minister was not good enough; it had to be whom ever the head man of the week was. And then there is the thrill that can only be obtained by giving orders to men in battle. Imagine... Everyone does what you tell them or you can have them shot to death. Buddy, that's power. And then comes retirement and it is all gone. Some folks make the jump to no power and some don't. When you know you have ability you are secure in that knowledge. When I was asked to see to it a delivery of oil would hit a berth at 20:03 on this date it would pull in at 20:03. No big deal. But if you are unsure of your ability you get stressed and start blaming everyone for your failure while the vessel is still on the high seas. When folks like that retire they really start freaking out over their lack of power, and they start trying to tell everyone how to live and how to act and asking why is your hair so long and....... We had a lot of younger folks that were Conservatives working with us. We could never let them get near anything too expensive since they had such a 'victim' mentality in that if they broke something it was never their fault and why was everyone picking on them? One manager took all the hard core Conservatives and put them on to the same team. Nothing got done, no one accepted any blame, and after a $250,000,000 loss they were all assigned to something else. I think it is just their nature. So it starts young and never gets any better, but it all comes down to power. God forbid they should ever hit a problem they cannot yell at someone else to deal with, because that's about all they have. Some folks can deal with power and some cannot. |

I agree that when one steps away from the thing they’ve spent most of their adult life doing (working, that is, in one way or another), there is bound to be a degree both fear and frustration. Those and other elements do explain why some would be grouchy. After all, people bring their life everywhere they go...
I don’t know if political alliance has anything to do with this kind of behavior. As an aside, I’ve enjoyed reading your accounts. Keep up the good work! |

With it, you have proven that Churchill was not an independent thinker. A reasonable conclusion, since he was (in latter days) both conservative and the originator of the quote. |

Pooka, You have had a lot of experiences!
I see much of the same ineptness among younger people--especially the refusal to accept responsibility for anything. I don't attribute that to their politics--especially since liberals way out number conservatives in MD. I attribute it to the over-cuddling/ PC nature of public ( and much private) education over the last 30 years. We think we are nurturing children by the constant praising of any endeavor--but all we really teach them is indulgence. Some places even stop keeping score on youth athletic games so that no one loses--but also no one wins. Never have to deal with "the agony of defeat", nor "the thrill of victory". never have to build character. never have to admit you failed, or that some else made superior effort, and achieved superior results. In short, those young people, are acting exactly as they have been educated to act. If you want different results, you must change the way we educate. Of course my 88 year old mother-in-law has never admitted to doing anything wrong--not even of misplacing stuff in my house,---in her life.
