I want to start with the safest bet —Gelandewagens— and slowly work towards other diesel 4x4's (diesel Land Cruisers, Mercedes U-Trucks, Land Rovers— and other more sporty Euro oddities.

I am currently on the hunt for business partners all over the United States, Coast to Coast. I need someone to distribute and sell these vehicles who has the following characteristics:

-An unbridled love for all things on wheels, no matter how tractor-like.
-Personable, communicative and trustworthy (PeachParts is a great pool to find people. I have never been disappointed).
-Obviously, solvent. This is no partnership for the weak of heart/pocket. Details will be discussed in private.
-Dealer's license is highly desired, but not a requirement.
-Important: access to affordable, comprehensive and knowledgeable mechanical repair services (just in case) that is not just DIY.
-Impeccable customer service skills for prospective buyers.
-Resourceful and creative. Need to have an active approach to business.

I am sure many members in this community can vouch for my personal integrity and fearlessness to trot the world for the right vehicle.

For details, please send me a PM. Let's make this happen!

I registered my UNIMOG with something they call an "indemnity bond" since the title from Switzerland had no signature on it. I would think Kansas has something similar. I would be willing to register one in NC for you as an experiment...

The cost of the bond is around $150-$200.

Hey Miguel,

If you want I can post a link to this page on one of the Gwagen specific forums. I'm sure that a few of the members there might have a lot of insight for you.

One facet that was discussed recently on this topic was the fact the older sorted G's in Europe now cost the same as older sorted G's that are stateside (The MBUSA G500s really drove the market for W460s down)

You may want to get in contact with this local (to Spain) G owner as well
Mercedes G - Puch G

Let me know how I can help!

In LA you can find a 100K+ miles early 2000 G500 for under $25K. Most persian Beverly Hills princesses got tired of the harsh ride and went back to the plush ride of the Range Rover. The only one I would think would be worth importing is the cabrio or a pick up, the ones we don't have here in large numbers.

I din't find one for under 25K with my 2 minute interweb search, but I've seen them. With a little negotiating I'm sure you can get the ones below for $25K. There are so many G's in Los Angeles, If I'm around Hollywood; Beverly Hills or Glendale I see at least 6 to 10 of them driving by. I think there would be more money too be made in Land Rovers, still very rare.

Heck, I'd love to have some shipped to Texas on sales consignment - once the hurdle of paperwork legally got completed here.......

There's likely a huge market for those exotics here! But it's not always a sure thing I've found with some imports....

Check eBay. They pop up all over the country from time to time.

According to a guy on jalopnik, we should call a group of G-wagens "a jelly of G-Wagens". Just thought that was a perfect name

A diesel G averages 18-20MPG no matter how you drive it, a G500 / G550 / G63 well... count on half of that! No nightmare window regulators, no computer trouble, an actual dipstick, fuel that doesn't explode, no over-reliance on electricity... the diesels are the ones to have!

I looked at buying a G500 and other G wagons off and on for the last several years and found that the 2000-2002 model years can be found for an asking price of down to about $19K.

If you are familiar with google advanced search, use that to search the craigslist.org domain for g500 or variants of that.

Since the economy has rebounded I’ve seen prices for these start to increase again.

With scorn and contempt, of course.
