A friend has a 10V one, I'm not well versed in Audis, I want to say 88?
My favorite part of those cars is the radiator. Cool car, he doesn't drive it enough.

Don't those have timing belts....
....and reliability problems........ ...and there's almost none of them out there...so parts support is weak....?

I'd rather have a timing belt then a timing chain They're also Motronic so the computer is diagnostic capable and talks with VCDS.
There are very very few C3 Audis left -J

If by reasonable price you mean five or six hundred bucks, buy it and drive it until it quits, then walk away, it sounds like a plan. I would never put any real money or effort into an Audi. The ones I've been under the hood of were not mechanic friendly at all, and they don't offer any better driving experience than Mercedes or BMW.

I had an 87 quantum wagon (audi clone), these are spectacular drivers cars. Buy it.
I loved mine, great engine note from the gas 5cyl, great power, great handling. And this was from an NA motor, turbo will be a blast. Very in tune design. Not hard to maintain at all. I ended up rebuilding the whole front end, which was easy, no harder than my jetta. The thing I got a kick out of was looking across the engine bay with the high mounted steering rack and seeing daylight from wheel well to wheel well, with the entire motor in front of the front wheels. Fascinating layout Downside- poor fuel economy.

The last quantum I rode in made me fear for my life!
I rode in a 1990 Audi a number of years ago and was only moderately impressed...the guy who owned it had a heck of a time keeping it running properly, it broke almost every week. There's a reason there's virtually none left on the road...

There should be a bentley manual for this, I had one for my quantum, so repairs will be simple and easy with that spectacular resource.
Rarity issues will be a problem for body repair. Mine was super cheap because someone had smashed in the rear quarter. Took some doing, but got my hands on a bumper and a body guy made up where the panel originally was. This on doesn't look damaged though. Parts for mine were easy to find, and not expensive. I think them not being around is more related to being cramped and small as a wagon, while at the same time not achieving very good fuel economy. The car otherwise is a fun car to drive, but contemporary wagons were way better for space and utility

I've had a 86 4000cs quattro, a 90 20v quattro and most recently a 94 90cs quattro. All but the 90csq were great cars (that v6 was crap). The inline 5 cylinder is a strong motor, and with bosch motronic and turbo it should be a blast. Contrary to what people think, they're pretty robust cars. Things that will break would be power windows, ACC, and usual electrical gremlins. The timing belt is a breeze to change if needed, and the WP should be changed at the same time since its the timing belt tensioner.
If its a 5 speed, get it and drive it till it quits.

Another fascinating feature I recall is the cable activated seatbelt tensioning system this car could have. Basically the engine is so far forward with the radiator over on the drivers side, that the first thing to hit will be the motor. I measured once, I think its 6 inches from the furthest front point on the car. With that in mind, they have rigged up a pulley and cable system as an automatic seatbelt tensioner second system. Engine moves back in body for any reason, cables are pulled tight, seatbelt is pulled tight.
