I was a newbe to the Walking Dead and just happened to stumble onto it on as re-runs on regular TV.

I never have had Cable TV but I remember seeing some of the Ads on regular TV and it did not impress me as being interesting.

So within the last couple of Months I have watched it on TV and I was overall very impressed. Great Drama.
Not much interested in the Zombies but the dynamics and the problems of a group of People trying to survive for me is excellent.

I got on the internet and found the City Library had 2 complete sets Seasons 1-4. Spent the best part of 2 Days watching the whole thing.

Unfortunately I could not share it with My Wife who could not separate the Zombie violence from real life and is too empathetic to watch.

It does a bit if a job showing the psychological cost on the Survivors.

The complete Season 5 is supposed to be available some time in Aug 2015.

Fictional and real survival Books and Films have always interested Me.

In the first Season they catch some Fish and are having a good time eating. No Sentries Posted?
And of course that goes bad and People die.
So you can lean from the Series that if you are in a hazardous situation you can never relax and never stop doing what is needed to survive.

Here is a real life example. A Man is in a Raft out in the Ocean. He had some supplies that came in the Raft. He ate some food and drank some Water but left part the Supplies sitting out in the open in the Raft.
A single big Wave came along and capsized the Raft dumping out a lot of his Supplies; ones that he should have put away when he was done.
Note; He ended up surviving anyway.

It is an interesting show. Kinda grows on you to some extent.

Don't know. I got rid of my last wheel gun and probably won't buy another one. Not sure why. I don't think it is the capacity but just not a fan of wheel guns.

Never been queer for any guy or any gun but to each his own.

I had a couple of 45s. One was a 1911 Kimber and the other is a Sig P220. Switched to the 9mm since I wanted a smaller sized gun for carry P290 in the summer and maybe use a P239 for winter carry. Also went to a HK VP9 as the bedroom gun on my side. Not sure if the wife will adopt it or keep with her G23 that has been converted to 9mm.

Sticking to the needs of the TV Show you are better off with and auto due to the high capacity and the fast reload which is what the Military decided.
But, in the show you see them having to use what ever Guns they have.

The Stainless Steel Revolver in the Show is a symbol of something. I have not figured it out yet. It is also one of the mistakes in the show because most of the Places they find Ammo and other Guns the Ammo is for Semi-autos. He fires His revolver more then he finds Ammo for it.

I blieve they have 10 shot Revolvers and some States lik CA limit the capacity of Semi-Autos unless you have an older Gun and a stash of Magazines.

The Revolver thing is the ability to handle more powerful Cartridges. Wich in the TV show would have been better on the occasional Deer then the typical Semi-Auto.

When I was in the Army 1970-73 the Helicoptor Piolots were issued 38 special Smith and Wesson Model 10s not the 1911A1 (they had a Shoulder Holster). The reason was at the time there was no double Action Semi-autos in the Military.
The Pilots needed the Revolvers because they could be fired one handed incase the Pilot got injured in a crash which with Helicoptors is more frequent then you think.

A Revlolver can be reloaded slowly and awakardly witn one Hand. Someone wounded in the Hand or Arm might not be able to pull the slide back on a 1911A1 if the accidently released it prematurly.

No Handguns when I was Kid.
When I was in the Army I was put on KP on the day in Basic Training when they fired the 1911 type.
When In Germany I fired the 30 Special Smith & Wesson Model 10 that they issued to the Helicoptor Pilots to extremely poor effect.

Started off with a Ruger 22 Auto moved on to a Smith & Wesson Model 12 and model 28 (cheaper of the 27 that was at the time the CA Highway Patrol issue in a dull blue finish no frills). Later got a Ruger .357 Stainless Black Hawk.

On to 1911 .45 clones a LLAMA (had 2 the first one was bugularized. The 2nd one needed a Tighter Barrel Bushing to shoot well and I put the AMT Bushing on it and that fixed that and I fitted a Match Bushing to the AMT); and an AMT Long Slide then onto 9mm Walter P-9 and a China Torkorev in 9mm (compact but difficult to shoot accuratly due to the extremly heavy trigger pull and the Gun is rather light weight).

I like the AMT Long Slide best of the buch and used to shoot the best with that.

Sadly I bought no high capacity autos before the State Law changed so I will have a more difficult time with dealing with Zombies.

My Bosses Son joined the Marines and made a career of it. I met Him again about 5 Years after I had quite working for His Father at the local Shooting Range were he was shooting his issue type Beretta.

He let Me shoot it but would not shoot any of the assortment of Handguns I had brought because he did not want using other Guns to mess with His training on the Beretta.

So in times of stress you are going to fall back on that reflex/muscle memory and be more effective then if you have a different Gun.
In the beginning of the TV Show I can't remember if the Revolver was Rick's Duty Weapon or not as I did not pay attention. If it was his Duty Weapon the Character Rick would clearly know how to use if effectively in stressed situations.

On the other hand in the TV show the Revolver is some sort of Symbol. Not sure if it is a symbol of his leadership, a phallic symbol or ???

But, in History it is not uncommon for Leaders to have different and more showy Weapons then the ones they command.

In the last episode of season 4 Rick removes his Revolver and buries it with other Weapons and Ammo "just incase" before they go inside if the place called Terminus that claims to be a place of refuge and takes a 1911 with him. So Rick also has some personal attachment to the Revolver.

Not sure. I never took it that far to find symbolism in a movie. As to the ammunition issue, we have all seen movies where the guys fire hundreds of rounds and not reload once.

I have seen a 357 mag revolver that shoots 7 rounds. You can go further with 9mm revolvers that have moon clips. Cylinder will probably be larger. 10 shot revolvers probably will be 22 Cal or something smaller than 9mm.

For shooting zombies, you need the Hornady Zombie Ammunition.

That sounds kinda odd to me. If he was shooting in tournaments, it might make more sense. Sounds a little dramatic to think that a few shots here and there might mess something up seriously.

Not sure but while it looks shiny, I doubt I would want that. You certainly don't want it giving away your position in any combat situation.

Makes sense. If your weapon is taken, you have a backup somewhere else. 1911 has 7 round clip, 1 in the pipe. 357 was probably 6. Faster reload with magazine.

In My mind after mastering your Duty Weapons it is better to know a bit about a buch of different Weapons if you can as you never know when some tiny bit of knowlege can save you.

I have a 357 Stainless Steel Ruger Blackhawk. It is by no means polished but in the bright sun the reflection off of the Barrel is bad depending on where the Sun is making sighting iffy.

I stripped the Gun and taped part of the Barrel and the Sights with Duct Tape and bead blasted the upper surface of the Barrel and the upper part of the Frame.
I was lucky I worked someplace that had the Bead Blaster making it a cheap fix.

In the past I have seen the Police with Stainless Steel and even nickle plated Guns. Now a days they seem to have gone more tactical.

Again in the Past one of the City Police Officers told me they were allowed to carry and Gun above 9mm (not .308 type 9mm) and 38 special that they could qualify with and were willing to carry.

But, back far enough were Drugs and Gangs were not a serious Problem and Criminals were not so well armed.

There is several of the same sets by the same seller. If they were the real thing and stolen they must have taken a lot of them. Also they are being auctioned.

In any event I won't be able to know that.

I bought bought the whole show of Little House on the Prairie and everyone of the discs had bad problems somewhere on them. It was apparenlty a copied/ripped off set and who ever copied did not have the means to delete the protection or ?.

Took a while but I got my Money back on it.

What I don't get in the show is someone preferring a Crossbow for anything except hunting and on single tartest because reloading is too slow.

You can shoot faster with a regular Bow; which they did show some People using.

With either you would be best of with a Hand Gun for backup.

The most effective Hand Tool for killing Zombies seems to be the Framing Hammer wielded by the Big Black Guy and the Sword wielded by Mayshawn.
I remember one case where a Blade got stuck in a Zombies Head and another where a Hatchet got stuck so inthe Show the Hammer and Sword so far are entirly reliable.

Kinda my question too. I mean, if you are in combat and lose your service weapon, are you going to insist that they supply you with one before you go on? At that point, you'd use a stick if that was all you had. Like you said, better know a bit of everything else. I don't believe a few rounds would really mess up your muscle memory. After all, he has to train with an AR also. I think it is the drama he is trying to create.

First gun I had was a 44 Mag Ruger Redhawk. I tried the Blackhawk but hated Single Action.

Part of me is wondering if that will really screw you up come resale time?

I know that in the Dirty Harry movie he carried a 44 mag S&W 29 but I don't think they will allow you to do that today, do you? What if a cop qualified with a 500 S&W Mag shooting 350 grain slugs. I would think that the liability would be stunning.

I'd call it an Arms Race. You come out with an X band radar gun, I get a radar detector that sniffs it out. You come out with a K band gun, I get a scanner for X and K and so on. Perps are going to, and rather wisely, want a gun advantage for intimidation.
