Reminds me of the following story:

Two Mexicans were standing on the side of the road, near twilight, next to a broken down car in north-eastern Texas, near the border.

One said to the other: “How are we gonna get out of here? No one will stop.”

The other said: “I have an idea. You lay down on the road and I’ll stand behind you and wave my arms and we’ll and get someone to stop.”

The first one said: “I dunno about that…”

The other said: “It’ll be fine…unless they are from Texas.”

So the first one laid down on the roadway and the other stood behind him, waving his hands.

Moments later a semi-tractor puling two trailers was heading towards them at freeway speed. The semi drew closer and closer and closer, and the standing Mexican saw the Texas license plate, and could tell the truck was not gonna stop, so he kicked his friend to get him to move out of the way. It was too late for both of them and the one who was standing bounced off the bumper and ended up coming through the semi’s windshield and into the pasenger side; and the other one got punted onto the bushes on the side of the roadway. Both were killed by the impact.

The driver slowed to a stop and used his cell phone to call the police. Moments later an officer arrived. The officer smelled alcohol on the truck driver’s breath and asked what happened.

The driver responded: "I was just driving down the road and suddenly these two jumped out and tried to attack me." Then the driver slipped the Officer a $20 bill.

“I understand” said the officer. He pointed to the dead man in the cab and said, “We’ll cite that one for breaking and entering, and then he pointed to the other dead man on the side of the road and said, “and we’ll cite that one for hit and run.”

He blew a .24, doesn't remember a thing. This was a pack activity and will probably be repeated. Look for college age drinking problems on the horizon. Abuse on so many levels.

The state T showed up and the trucker was packing the dirt where he buried the two. He said, "I was trying to do the right thing and bury them". State T says, "Were they dead"? Trucker says "Well one of them said he wasn't but you know how Mexicans lie".

Disagree with a life sentence(*), but he should serve a good 5-10 years in prison and have his license revoked for life as a public menace.

(*) - there are a lot of people who only get off with a few years or probation for homicide or severe assault while stone-cold sober. Especially if they're cops, public officials, or live in states with excessively harsh "stand your ground" laws.

I woulda thought Texas handed out hard-azz southern justice??? What gives?

A friend's son was killed a few years ago by a kid wacked on weed. He got 9 years.I was told the victim's mother was given his hand to hold for "closure"
So sad.

Them without the capital get the punishment. The converse also applies.

Craig was hit head on riding his motorcycle. His body, shall we say, suffered extremely violent damage....in different directions. His mother was never shown his remains. So I was told.

He didn't have a chance. He was only about 1/4 mile from home when it happened in the middle of a Saturday afternoon.

what a weird sentence. Extreme leniency, but the state is not releasing this SOB to his parents because he suffers from "affluenza"

Quote:
Couch was sentenced by a juvenile court judge Tuesday. If he violates the terms of his probation, he could face up to 10 years of incarceration, according to a statement from the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office.
Judge Jean Boyd told the court she would not release Couch to his parents, but would work to find the teen a long-term treatment facility.
interesting verdict, as I can't help but agree that the judge has a point about blaming indulging spoiling parents for a stupid spoiled kid who ends up killing people. Still, at the same time she's rewarded the same too wealthy for consequences mentality she says they suffer from.
