Is this the sound of the pendulum at its left end?

Much like the financial wizard who, just before the stock market crash of '29, heard his shoe-shine boy discussing stocks, and immediately got out of the market, I wonder if this marks the extreme left swing of the pendulum before it begins its swing to the right.
Bill de Blasio and Fellow Mayor-Elects Meet at White House | Politicker

Remember, the conservatives felt that Reagan had just begun the era of Conservatism, and the country took a lurch to the left.

Analysts (or maybe more correctly amateur analysts), tend to look at the current situation, and project that current trends will simply continue forever into the future. Then, some unforeseen event happens, and overnight the situation changes.
Are we at the end of the left swing of that pendulum, or will it continue to swing every more to the left?

I don't think it ever really swung very far left.
Suggesting that Obama has been some sort of liberal is to deny reality.

I think we will see more erosion on the right, as they struggle with their radical element.
The liberal left will also have trouble, as the economy and looming debt will be burdens to any tax-and-spend candidate.

Hopefully we will see more centric candidates who have drive and vision..... HA!!!

Obama was bought and paid for by Wall Street a long time ago... Not sure what to think about deBlasio -- on the one hand, he's a welcome antidote to the excesses of Bloomy's mayorship, on the other, some of his ideas are frankly off the wall.

(Yep, let's remove tax breaks for businesses to move to NYC, so South Carolina can give them breaks and have them move THERE. Good idea. Fortunately, it's been tried before under Giuliani, and they saw reason before they did much damage.)

FWIW, "W" screwed the pooch in a way that has not been equaled since the Great Depression. Until people forget about the Great Recession, don’t expect a return to conservative politics for POTUS.

By most logic, what’s his name should have become POTUS at the last election, but because people are still pissed, it didn’t happen...

Compared to most R POTUSes of the past, O is a liberal, even tho other R POTUS have made a halfhearted attempt at health care reform, it took the perfect storm to pull it off...........and even then it turned out to be a ................halfhearted solution

The economy is turning around. The public debt is actually an easy thing to kick down the road, especially in a healthy economy. BTW the ACA will bring a HUGE increase of .fed dollars.

We'll see about the economy when the current stock valuation bubble pops. Should be amusing to watch.

Real estate in markets that "recovered" has already slowed down nicely -- by some accounts, non-contingent inventory in places like Vegas and Phoenix is up by 90-100% since the spring(!)

Now that the tea partiers are losing traction with the main stream R's perhaps the country will swing a bit to the left.

As a whole it is being governed by a very centrist president with the congress also acting pretty centrist overall.

The growing gap between the middle class and the uber rich should also eventually move the country to the left.

Please explain where the ACA will bring a huge increase in fed dollars to. Certainly not to the fed but from the fed to who knows who. Other than the multi millionaire actors, athletes, and musicians that are hired to try to sell it.

Conservatives that thought it all began with Reagan must have been born yesterday. Goldwater was the great hope for the Conservatives until he opened his mouth and all the crazy came out.

Or you can go back to Hoover. I was taught that what really bought on the Great Depression was the stimulus package Hoover put forth and then, when it was starting to kick in, stopped. The economy caved in pretty quickly after that. Note that the crash of the stock market and the crash of the economy were two different events with two different causes during 1929.

And where did I get such nutty thoughts? Mostly from those who were there when it all went down and watched these events with their own eyes.

But that is really a different subject. Hoover was THE guy for Conservatives, and if you read over what Republicans were saying in the 30's you will find little difference between then and now. Hoover might have been out of office, but there were a lot of folks still in the House and Senate that thought the same way Hoover did.

And Mayors meeting the President at the White House? This has been taking place for many, many years and up until now all anyone thought was this was a group of Mayors meeting at the White House so the President can get a feel for what's going on out there past the Beltway.

I don't recall the country taking a lurch to the left when Reagan was elected. After all, he was re-elected and then his VP Bush was elected. The country took a lurch to the right when they felt betrayed by Bush for any number of reason and Perot ran and split the Republican vote.

Clinton did not win by a majority. If Perot had not run who knows how the election might have turned out.

Of course, this story could be nothing but an attempt to rewrite history since how many people remember when Perot ran for President, or that the Reform Party split the Republican vote again four years later?
