I like to have my tweaked DD, that I can easily work on and modify.

If I only cared about A->B in comfort I'd be leasing something new.

Edit: On your average PC, fresh arctic silver grease ($10) then nuke & pave (reformat & reinstall) will bring you back to like-new performance. Super easy on a desktop, medium easy on a notebook.

Doubt it about Cisco -- something has to run the backends of networks, and it's been CSCO for a looooong time.

Networking equipment company Cisco was founded in December 1984 by two members of Stanford University computer support staff.

30 years ago, buying a Macintosh meant you were signing up for limited software and hardware, while on the IBM/DOS side, there were options galore. Nothing was actually "cheap" back then on either platform, but there was just more energy on the PC side of things. True, if you wanted PostScript printing and AppleTalk networking, it was a great opportunity, but it was still a booming PC desktop world in 1984.

The Mac was Apple's successful attempt to enter the business market after the Apple III and Lisa Office debacles.

In 1984: Apple II = school and home use. Very few people had an IBM clone at home (I thought my aunt's AT&T 6300 was weird, she was given it because she was a programmer for AT&T).

IBM clones = business/office use.

Interesting that we've come full circle around, with Macs and iPads taking the place of the Apple II's market, and Windows boxes being used more in the office.

Golly, maybe they will have to dip into their banked billions.

Nah.

I sure wish I had invested in Apple when they went public or in the mid-1990's. Both times I had free cash to do it and both times I weined-out. Had I not been so risk-averse I would have been significantly wealthier. Instead I stuck with boring-ass mutual fund investment for the past 40 years. It's not exciting but there have been far more ups than downs so I did okay.

Woulda, shoulda, coulda! Me, too, Bot. Even after seeing one of the first i Pods on my way home from SF, I said to myself, "I have to buy Apple stock and still didn't do it. Well, I did finally buy some years later, and I've made a nice paper profit with it so far, but nothing like I might have done, had I not whimped out back then.

WGAF. For every Crapple, there are 10 companies that are good buys and can be used to make a buck.

RHT -- up from $45 last year to $56-60 now.
SPWR -- up from about $4 a year ago to $32-35 now.
Found on Road Dead -- up from $0.99 in 2008 to about $15-16 now.

Etc. Hopefully the stock market will lose another 20-25% to create more such buying opportunities soon!!!

Apple is by no means my only computer/high tech investment. I've made plenty on Cisco, but I'm currently out of it. It put one of my daughters through graduate school. I own Micron and Intel and a slew of other stocks, but Apple is a more fun/interesting story to talk about. I even own stocks of companies that would bore you to tears, but they consistently make money, pay dividends, and grow equity.

Why are you out of CSCO -- it doesn't seem overvalued compared to many tech stocks out there, and their business-grade equipment may not be glamourous, but it does run the Internet behind the scenes.

I do, and that article points out one of my pet peeves with the apple phone.
The cables are stupid price, and the OS blocks most third party cables from functioning.
Total BS.

Will not purchase another iphone. Android kicks it's butt.
