Sure, because it suits your purpose of looking for slant. What you end up with searching that kind of wording is page after page of Republican and other right wing blogs repeating largely the same old crap. Shoot, googling Republican finance scandals gives the same results on different slanted pages. I tell you what. Here's a comprehensive list of actual federally prosecuted campaign finance cases dating back at least as far as 1930. You want to look them up and give us a Dem v Rep tally be my guest. Until then, your statement I originally replied to is bull-pucky. By the way, intentionally mis-spelling Democrat is childish. Isn't this just about your last week of 7th grade?

Nope. The Democrat from this area that was doing this would normally keep the amounts lower than that to keep from attracting attention. It also make it harder to catch the perp as there are fewer people involved.

I think if you involved one person in such a scheme you might as well involve more, but the theory is the wider you spread it out the less control you have over the situation and therefore the greater chance of being caught.

That being said..... It makes me wonder who was advising this guy. The guy from here that got caught spelled it all out during his trial hoping to get a break from the Judge.

He didn't.

So that makes everything this guy did OK?

Send them all to jail. This tossing out the 'everybody does it' is really getting old.

Straw donors? First time I'm hearing of it. I'll admit I like the idea, since I don't agree with the cap on individual campaign contributions. I'd like it a lot better if there was no limit so long as the candidates fully disclosed where the money came from.

True. That's why only the little ones get caught and the occasionally dumb big one...

The guy here got caught when he went big. I think the amount was $50,000 or so, but I understand he had been at it for years; they just could not gather enough evidence to convict.

But then they did and they dragged him off to the slammer. A lot of folks were somewhat sad about it and made comments like 'He did so much good for the area' but that is beside the point and you don't need to be a criminal to do good for an area.

This guy was no Robin Hood and if there were not tons of money in it for him he would have never done it, but there was and he did and since he has been out of our hair I have noticed things are starting to get a lot better around here.

Small town folks have a saying: There's nothing wrong with this place that a few heart attacks would not cure. There was no heart attack involved here, but things have sure gotten better since Mr. Big was removed from the scene.

When I was on the school board we had to disclose any contribution larger than $100. I can't see why that should not be the standard for everyone no matter the office.

When I was on the board I would not let an interested party even buy my lunch.

But actually researching one's comments is work, and almost always results in a less sensational statement.....

I wonder as well about the drive by slander that so many choose to engage in with the deliberate misspelling of names....
