Big scandal in philly right now regarding teachers and administrators cheating and switching up standardized test scores. Very sad, I will be very interested to see how this turns out for Nola.

He had learned this from adults who could not read and after viewing their fine example he said that most of the kids in NO figured if the adults they knew could make it without reading then so could they.
This issue has been around as long as I can remember. If kids don't want to learn they shouldn't be interrupting those who do.

Maybe mandatory education is not needed. Bussing for profit is a mistake. I just saw an estimate to build a school, tens of millions. BS.

The system also has an alternative policy of firing all the teachers and principals at failing schools and replacing them with a new set. I think they'd be better off firing all the parents and replacing them with a new set.
I knew a guy that had the most worthless parents that ever lived. He turned out to be very successful. I asked him what role his parents played in his life and he said he just knew he did not want to turn out like them.

But he had other role models in that his friends parents were educated and successful. He saw it could be done and what it took to get there but he would have never figured it out if the only adults he knew were his parents.

So yeah, parents are a big factor. Just a little bit of help goes a long, long way even if it comes from adults that are not the child's parent.

Membership in something like the Boy Scouts will also help in this area of positive adult role models.

It seems like that is what we are getting anyway. We are pretending. Lots of money gets churned.

That's why all the apostrophe deputies are here to help. "It's" should always be replaceable with "it is." Otherwise gets no apostrophe.

But you knew that. I'm always shocked at how often I get there, their, and they're wrong but notice it immediatelly on a proof read. Some phonetic wiring in the brain.

I hate to say where I heard the quote but I thought it is a good one.

We love stuff and use people. It should be the other way around.

Funded by the Waltons of Walmart fame.

I predicted Walcare and McHealth. I didn't see the same coming for education but here we are.

Some standardized tests are good. AP tests for instance are pretty decent. The standardized tests use to rate schools aren't worth a pinch of **** in a fertilizer factory.

Agreed, most simply aren't designed well. Every school spends a lot of time and effort simply educating the kids how to take the tests, whereas ideally the tests should come as almost an afterthought. The stakes raise much higher when the schools performances are determined with them, which then determines funding, etc etc.

I think one of the big issues is that they generally do not capture the lowest test performers because it is a little too hard, but it also does not adequately capture the top performers either since a lot of them are too easy for them. A one size fits all is just jammed down the throats of these schools and they expect to make it work.

They line up en masse here for charter over public schools....particularly minority parents who know public schools are failures.
Why do teacher unions do everything they can to kill charter schooling?

Funny too, obama killed DC's charter program right after taking office.....er I mean taking campaign cash from the teachers unions.
