For someone who wants a truck for doing truck things, it's a great idea. However, for that market segment that wants a truck for a status symbol or large poor handling fuel wasting version of a car, the Sprinter probably isn't going to sell well.

One of the problems with a side dump is operators can stand a rear dump on it's tail gate if the load sticks. A side dump would lay in it's side with less effort.

I've seen track dump "trucks" with a 2 way dump and swiveling cab to eliminate turning around.
You need to check this unimog system out if you can. Its geniously simple. Probably wouldnt work for really heavy equipment, but i serviced a unimog once with the setup and its great for probably light to mid duty.

All it consists of is a central hydraulic ram with a pivot head connected underneath right in the center of the bed, and a dump bed connected to the body by 4 locks on the corners. To control the direction of the dump you simply unlock the two locks on the opposite side and activate the ram. Boom, with drop down sides it dumps either side or to the rear. Could dump forward too if there were any purpose to that.

Got it, it is more of a 3 way than 4.
