Because leo's are not enforcing the laws that we have now. So by upping the ante you just turn them into money grabbers. There are two cars ging down the road, one doing twenty five over the limit and one ding twenty over the limit. The one doing twenty over the limit is a newer luxury car. The one doing twenty five over is a rusty shyt box, who gets pulled over with percentage based fines. When does it end, should a gallon of milk be based on a percentage of income to make that fair also?

Simple to fix -- require all fines imposed by local courts to go into the state general fund, not one cent can be kept by a given jurisdiction. The only sources of funding for local authorities should be property taxes, local sales taxes, and state subsidies (if needed). This removes much of the incentive for predatory ticketing and/or forfeiture.

As it is, some towns in NJ "favor" the rich or out-of-towners. Both are more likely to just mail in the fine vs going to court to get it reduced or dropped.

That and the income from the states lottery will go to education.

I want to live where you do then. I see cops all over the place stopping speeders. I've been busted a few times.

We know who is being stopped now. Any significant deviation. In the stats can be delta with so targeting could be dept with easily.

To compare milk cost with trafic fines is just silly.

From the IN boarder to the WI boarder on 294 in IL if you are going ten over the speed limit you will get run over or run off the road. That is unless you are stopped in traffic with rubber neckers gawking at the accident. A traffic court judge asking you how much do you make per year so he/she knows how much to fine from you is just stupid. I would not want to be the next one in court behind that question. It may go something like this. I gross 1.2 mil have 5 employees, mortgage deduction, married, 2 kids, mileage deduction, home office, depreciation on everything from production equipment to my stapler, college loan interest deduction, medical expenses, travel expenses, oh and I forgot my expense account. So my net is a negative 250K. How much should the court give ME seeing I have a negative in the income department?

If you are running a $250k a yr negative cash flow I'd expect you are in bankruptcy. If you are actually in debt then I expect you would be paying the base fine.
