I'm guessing from the snow on the mountains (picture was from late April) and the native vegetation (conifers), it gets pretty darn cold and windy.

Of course, that is from a Tucson perspective.

It varies widely depending on where you are-the topography varies a lot. It's about 4800' here. Typical winter lows in teens/20's, highs in 50's. It's been a very mild winter so far but cold. All in all nice.

Our property is taxed at about 25% of what we paid for it. Since we are building our prop taxes will be lower than if we bought a house.

Drove many times through Northern Nevada coming back from the Bonneville Salt Flats, some of the most beautiful landscapes I've seen. Spent the night once in Genoa, beautiful town, wouldn't mind getting old there. Nasty speed traps on the route tho, for some towns it's the main source of income...

Well we are finally in escrow. I thought showing the house was a pain. After all the inspections I feel totally dejected and humiliated. This is the worst experience of my life. Please tell me there is a check at the end of the tunnel.

The move is on! Tonight is our last night in the home. We go to sign papers tomorrow. Got our NV Drivers Licenses a few weeks ago-that's 3 hrs of my life I will never get back. Getting a DL is now like getting a Passport or official document-I had to bring birth certificates, SSN cards, Marriage certificates, proof of residency etc. one cool thing-no more smog checks EVER.
Also I'm getting new vintage license plates for my coupe-they offer the 70's Blue plates. Trying to come up with a good combination. The DMV website has a search so you can check and see if it is available.

Well been here for almost 4 mos. So far love it. Nightime temps typically 15-20 deg but warms nicely during the day. You don't want a north facing driveway as it will be frozen all winter. Our property is south facing frontage so good there. Have not started designing the new house yet-still trying to recover from getting out of our last home.
Taxes are better than ca-no state income tax. Gas is 40c less expensive. Most everyone in our neighborhood is from So Cal or the Bay Area. It's very open and uncrowded here-most people that move to Nevada are moving to Reno/Sparks.

Well the Nevada experience is not working out as expected-it is going to take longer and cost more to build our home due to the economic expansion in Reno/Sparks about 1hr away. The builders are going to the money building tract homes there. Our original dream was to move to the Oregon Coast town of Bandon-we are re-opening the dream. We are still pretty much packed up and living in a rental. Real Estate is tight in Bandon so we will need to wait for the right home. Just got back from a quicky trip to look at a few homes that turned out to be major fixer uppers. The town burned down in 1936 so a lot of the homes are late 30's-50's. Ocean view is 50-75% premium. It's a long way from here (9 hrs) so move will be difficult.

Bought a home in Bandon Oregon-still living in NV while we wait for former owners to move out. The move starts in a few weeks. We can finally settle down. The lot is big enough for me to build a shop-hope to get started ASAP.
