Cat Hospice

I take care of 3 Cats. 2 born under my House (females fixed) and on that just showed up at the Door one day (Male).

Even though I live in the City it is difficult to feed them as other Cats and other critters eat the food.

To help with that I feed the Females inside of my Motor Home (the Engine is shot and I never seem to get around to fixing it). I lock them in and leave one of the Windows open just enough for them to get out. (I don't let the Male in because he pees on stuff and the Females run from him.)

The one Female is agile enough that she can jump and get back inside. Up until a week ago She was the only one that was able to do that.

I guess it was inevitable but some other Cat got inside the Motor Home through the open window and of course was eating the food. I never could get a good look at him because when I open the door he would run to the back of the Motor Home (I am using it as a storage shed) and hide under the Junk where I could not see let alone find him.

I finally managed to open the Door and block his way to the back and he ran out of the Motor Home.

The next day I got a better look at him. He is in very distressed shape and although he ran OK his movements were stiff. He reminded me of a Cat that came in my yard that was starving to death because he had a huge abscess on head and Jaw area and apparently was not eating. I suppose he could just be a really old Cat.

So I felt sad for that Cat and I left the Motor Home Door open to see if he would go back inside. So I am feeding him and am going to see what happens.

He a least has a good appetite and poops a lot so he may have some chance of recovering from what ever is his issue.

Right now it is clear that he does not want to leave the Motor Home (food and water and litter box).

He is not interested in making friends and stays almost out of sight.

Attached are the only decent pic I could get of him. He acts like he can see OK but his eyes look funny. Perhaps he has cataracts. His eyes don't follow movement.

The 3 Cats I was already taking Car of eat Rats, Mice, Gophers and I have even seen them eat Bugs even though I feed them.

In fact I did not know there was Rats around till I saw one of my Cats playing with the dead body throwing it around before it ate.

I think I pretty much verified the Cat has a vision problem. He is staying under the Motor Home Seat as in the Picture. I quietly slide a stick with in 3 inches of him and got no reaction at all from him.

When I waggled the stick around he moved his head slightly.

Filmy eyes is never a good thing and God knows cats get infections so easily .

No, I'm not going to mail the feral cats away, the chicks came in egg boxes, too small for cats besides I'd have to catch the damn things so I'll just suffer with them .

My first Cat was one that someone threw away/abandon. I found out later it had been owned by someone because it had been fixed. It got cancer and I had it euthanized.

Ya, I don't have the Money for much medical attention for Cats but it is cheap to feed them. He looks like a male Cat so no worry about kittens if that is true.

I have crazy ladies both sides at home. They feed feral cats and raccoons and squirrels if they eat the stuff. One lady just lost here husband and at his service said she has 17 cats in her house. I told her she better get rid of most of them or they'd ruin her lovely home. She won't.

There is a bear problem of some size. About two miles up the road from us. They will probably work there way down to our area all too soon.

For some reason their numbers seem to be steadily increasing. They also seem to be losing their fear of humans if they ever had it. A daughter there has a fenced off area for the dogs.

A bear comes down daily to the back of the fence. Yet there is nothing to really eat there. It is illegal to shoot them so I suggested the son in law contact the police if the lands and forest department will not trap and remove him. They claim they only have one bear trap and are swamped.

A brother in law suspects that even the ones that are trapped are not being moved far enough away. People are getting quite concerned with their close proximity to their homes.

Across the road the land falls away . We see lots of bears way down there periodically. They just never seem to venture across the fields to our side of the road so far.

I am surprised they do not for the domestic garbage placed out for collection. I never saw one locally until about three years ago. Now I see them in numbers. Five or six or more at a time are are quite common. Personally I feel a season should be opened until the numbers are reduced.

I was surprised that large Canadian cities like Toronto are experiencing a substantial rat problem. Yet seem unable to bring it under control as well. To say I dislike rats is an understatement. They closed the farm next door years ago. The next year we had more rats around than you could shake a stick at. I set out a lot of traps and was quite busy resetting them for quite some time. Than they seemed to disappear.

Talking Entertainig Thread

Wow, I guess everyone has animal issues .

We have rats galore plus coyotes too .

The damn rats & mice won't touch poison and they don't go into traps either, it's maddening .

My property is fenced so I don't have a yard full of poop, just the one area next to the drunken woman next door .

Getting rid of cats & dogs is easy but, you have to be careful because it'll kill every animal, not just the ones you don't like .

Only one of my Cats comes in the House to occasionally sleep on the corner of the bed.

My Mother had 8 Cats and 2 large Dogs (she kept taking in Cats that people were getting rid off). I finally convinced here that the Vet Bills were getting out of hand. And she gave away the Dogs and just let normal attrition take care of the Cats.

I got another picture. Apparently something happened to his face because the rest of his body looks good.

I again tried slowly shoving a stick at him and this time in better light he saw it but not until it was 4 inches from him.

I am trying to figure out if the area on his face is his natural color or some chemical got on his face and bleached out the color.
