Technically you could say that every Mercedes has plywood all over the thing. Door trim, dash trim, window trim in many. With a nice veneer.

The fintails were very well built cars except for the poor rust resistance, which was pretty normal.

Basically all Mercedes have poor rust resitance. Then they slather on 2-7mm of garbage that hides any rust untill it's too late to address it. The floor drains are worthless too. So many aren't even at the lowest point. It's not so bad when they are used alot but once they break and get parked in the same place and sit its bad.

I always thought the late 123s were pretty good on rust.

Well, I was around when they were new cars, not nearly 40 years old. Compared to other cars back then they were as good as it got.

I have one rust free w123 wagon from Texas. But most are far from it. And unless they are wagons are extremely worthless. The price when new was far from good as it got too. My first 85 300td had a 35,000 window sticker. Bonkers.

I suggest you name a car that was better for rust than a 123 Mercedes in 1982.

Hard to say. Nothing still running that hadn't been rebuilt. My 85 Monte Carlo ss is pretty rust free. Definitely better than my 85 300td was when it went away. The rubber and interior are a different story on the gm.

Its hard isn't it?

Trust me nothing was better built in 82 or before that held up against rust better.
