Best Ceramic Windshield Coating

Do any of them compensate for 'sandblast haze' . decades of tiny particle wear.

I would pursue a new windshield. Might not be that much with insurance. RainX helps a lot-I have used it for years but it's mostly effective in rain.

I like rain-x . silicone based and great for water. I am going to try the nano tech. Supposed to fill pores and bond to the silica and last. How much does a brand new greenhouse glass windshield go for in a W126 now a days?

This term they use Ceramic, I think is a hype. I used Ceramic Inserts to cut hardened metal after heat treat, and cryo treatment, to save grinder operator time cutting parts to close to finish diameters. Unlike other inserts for machining, they are brittle, and won't take interruped cuts, like machining jaws for lathes.
So my understanding like tungsten which is a powder compressed like chalk, then melted to become a part, then machined. I would assume so is ceramic's too.

The resident chemist on the Bimmerfest board recommends Aquapel. He even uses it on his paint.

Rain Repellent Glass Treatment - Aquapel Glass Treatment

You can get old windshields polished back to almost new.

I use a ceramic spray on from Girots Garage that I pick up at O'Rilley's. It is impossible to spray this on and not get it on your glass. The good news is it not only works great on the car's paint but also on the glass.

It will not repel water like Rain-X, but it will clean your glass like nothing else and leave it clear. It will not repair the sandblasting from years of use.

I tried everything to clean up a windshield on a Toyota Landcruiser. Nothing works except for a new windshield.

I've got 3 items that made it to my analysis spread sheet so far. For Glass. Supposedly they are nano sized SiO2 or TiO2 based (hard stuff) particles in some sort of resin. I think. It is like pulling teeth to nail this stuff down.

I looked up Griot's Garage's glass treatment, it is a clean and wash in one product that is supposed to contain the nano SiO2 they use the term 'advanced silane polymer technology '.

I recall when they coated new brick construction with silane products. In fact I still have some of that somewheres ...perhaps I should test that on an old car .... I think the stuff was Sodium methylsilicate CH3Na3O4Si IIRC

So unless they changed it it was advanced back in the 70's

Post Pitted Glass

I use Rain-X to very good effect, it takes some time and multiple uses before it begins to build up and hide those damn sand pits .

If you're having trouble at night, call around before you choose a new windshield, most are $500 ~ $600 , I use a place in L.A. that's rarely over $250 and they know how to rope in a grommeted windshield .

I've used polishing compound to remove wiper scratches from windshields, once you have the half moons the glass is kaputi so why not experiment ? .
