Talking

Tried it once and the girl was "so-so" but her nickname should have been Hoover.

Was set up by some sleezy girls in kollege because they thought she and I would be just about as incompatible as can be. She was a serious student that didn't seem to drink, smoke or do any bad things and I was out drunk 5 nights a week.

I like all of these stories citing great blind date stories and then stating not to expect anything. By reading this, I would think I am finding my future wife.

The last blind date I went on was a disaster. The girl was 6'2" (I'm 5' 10"), didn't have any good convo, and she didn't eat. One of the most awkward nights of my life.

Go on and go for it though, doesn't hurt to try

She was so ugly when she cried the tears came out her ears to keep from crossing her face.

I like the old favorite better.

She was so ugly that her daddy had to tie a pork chop around her neck so the family dog would play with her.

Ironically, I believed that much of what a woman desired in a man was the ability to provide them with material comfort...that is somewhat true to a fundamental perspective.

I translated that into thinking that having a nice car would be the best impression one could make in that area. But during my eligible dating years, I was too busy struggling with a budding IS career and graduate college studies. Money was tight, and to add on that, I was driving a pea green 4-door 73 Chevy Malibu as a daily driver, while pouring as much money as I could secretly rebuilding my old VW to a show car.

Needless to say, I didn't attract any women during that period. Although, looking back, the problem was I was pursuing the WRONG women. The right type of woman would have seen through that muck and realized what that I would have made a really good mate!

When things got better, I finally bought my first new car at 30...a fully-loaded 1990 Mazda MX-6. I did everything to make it a babe magnet...custom red paint job, rims, thumpin' stereo, car phone (remember those?), etc. etc.

The woman that eventually WAS attracted to me (my wife of course) was totally ignorant about cars, so the whole car thing became a moot issue!

The best part about being married now, is that I don't spend my time trying to prove how desireable I can be to a prospective mate! That sure takes a lot of pressure off, and I don't envy anyone nowadays trying to sort through the "meat market"!

Funny you should ask...

When we met, she was a deacon(ess) at her church, AND the choir director. I later left my church to join hers and became the music minister. Not because I was good or anything but "in the kingdom of the blind, the guy with one eye working is the king".

Now that we are in Texas, and finally found a church home (www.metchurch.com), I'm am an active member as one of the church musicians (we have a band), and help out with the children's Vacation Bible events and the Christmas musical every year. My wife does attend, but prefers to blend in with the congregation! :p

Despite the fact that it looks as if the tables have turned, I believe she still walks a straighter path in life than I do...

Well, in 1999 I was going through my first (and hopefully last) divorce. I actually did not believe it would happened until she filed. I went into a chatroom for divorcees about 2 days later and met a girl who lived about 10 minutes from me. we went out a couple of times, but really no sparks (on my side). But, she was nice so I thought to continue to hang out. My divorcing wife was very curious (and furious) about me actually meeting somebody, but I kept quiet about any details.
About 2 weeks later I get this e-mail- "I moved in from Atlanta, I don't know anybody here, do you think we could hang out?"
The first thought was- my wife is putting me on. But I started IM'ing and e-mailing with Ellen, and she proposed we met. At this time I was driving a 1987 Dodge Colt so I warned her about the divorce and financial implications of such, including my car. She did not mind (she was an Office Depot mgr making around 100K a year including bonuses).
When we met the first thought I had was :" it's going to be a loooong date- she is so far out of my league, it's not even funny." imagine a Polish-Irish (can't get any more Catholic, unless you are a Pope) strawberry-blond-going-on-redhead with radiant green eyes woman with a very trim and fit body saying " hi, are you Peter?" at the same time when your self esteem (never very high) is at a life-low.

Well, it went OK I guess, because our son will be 2 this November and we will celebrate our 3 wedding anniversary this May (yes he was an "ooops, how did this happened?", but not unwelcomed. by the way, being in the 2% of people that found out the Pill AND another contraceptive method is not infallible, should I play a lottery??).

Good Luck!!
