whats your recommendation for the best current MP3/G software?

i used morpheus before, havnt in months, just got a new laptop.

kazzah (sp?) seems very popular, but i read WAY too many warnings about spyware and other imbedded junk.

which one are you using nowdays?

ps- im stuck at 56k for the time being.

You have to share a certain amount to get on many of the hubs though.

I used to use KAZAA, but it took way too much space downloading ad garbage, and it would slow down my connection whenever I had it open (which is substantial, considering I'm using a 350K cable connection). For the time being, I haven't found any alternative. I used to use audiogalaxy, but they got shut down.

Instead of Kazaa, use Kazaa Lite - www.kazaalite.com . I can't say how it compares to others because I rarely download individual mp3's these days. I usually download full albums with emule - www.emuleproject.net in cunjuction with the forums at www.sharereactor.com . I also use it to download movies and television shows. I'm told it's slower than Kazaa, but fake files are far less common. I've never encountered a fake file on the eDonkey (eMule) network.

Kazaa is tops if you have a personal firewall installed.

I can download from home @ a rate of 20-25kb/sec

oh yeah... you guys know about the Kazaa registry hack to remove the song quality limit? you go to run in the start menu, enter regedit, then when the new window pops up, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, software, and click on the kazaa folder (not the plus) in the window to the right, you will see a file called LimitBitrate. Open that, and if you haven't changed it, it should have a value of 1. This was inserted because of the RIAA complaining, and it limits your song quality downloads to 128K; below CD quality. If you change it to 0, you fix the problem and can download good quality songs. I like 192Kbps for most of my songs, and 300 something for good songs with a lot of bass (usually cut out when downsizing quality).

try seraching for nospy imesh.

The file is 1.22 megs, no spyware, and works great.
