When out in the country/highway one could use the CB for information (road conditions, traps, fuel, your own vehicle or provide info to another driver about their vehicle). Yes the cell phone is nice but another driver who sees your tire coming apart or you bike coming off the rack etc does not know your mobile number!
GPS is great for navigation etc but the information may not be current a flooding roadway, a jack-knifed truck etc. The internet has come a long way from arpa and darpa the ole fashioned net days and I hope it keeps growing in the correct direction. Who knows the CB or something similar may make a comeback yet! It was a community chat room for real! Speaking of community the ole books does hold a lot of wisdom to say the least. Makes for good reading where ever one gets a chance. |

d.l i think the concensus feels YOU should, give this a rest!!! there is a saying, "if you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the problem." quit making your "problem" our problem. YOU are inflaming this thing, and damaging your credibility here. peter

Aaaaaaauuuuuuugggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!
MAKE IT STOP
THE BAD MAN IS SCARING ME. . . For those of you who weren't here at MerceedesShop in "the old days" before we had an Open Discussion Forum, this kind of vile pernicious filth was often found hidden in Tech Talk, Diesel Discussion, or any other forum that was supposed to be strictly reserved for mechanical discussions. Many members here were actually opposed to the very idea of an Open Discussion Forum, they felt that we needed to focus on Mercedes-Benz ownership and maintenance only. However, I was one realtively new member that felt we needed a sort of "virtual driver's lounge" where we could share opinions on topics of interest to us outside of our common ownership of these Mercedes' we all love. I thought it should be a place where we could share our sense of humor, post pictures of our kids, tell stories of our daily experiences, and get to know each other as people with something in common. And I lobbyed heavily for that very template to be the cornerstone of this forum. It was never intended to be a place where we would fight among ourselves, trade insults, and engage in petty, immature squabbles over meaningless issues. But freedom of expression isn't a meaningless issue, it's part of the Bill of Rights, and sharing pictures of hot chicks is as American as apple pie. I have wanted to share pictures of lovelies draped over a gorgeous Mercedes Benz many times on these boards, but have had to resort to sending them via email to a select "inner circle" of free thinking open minded people so as not to offend the few members here who still embrace an antiquated morality of some bygone era. So perhaps what we need here is an adults only forum that you have to have a special password to access. That way, we "perverts" can get our sick jollies while you more repressed sickos trying to place yourselves on a higher moral ground can only imagine what we're up to as you seethe in your resentment of our freedom. Meanwhile, that doesn't mean you have to avoid MercedesShop altogether, but this is an OPEN Discussion forum, and as far as I'm concerned, that means you have to be a member to be here. This isn't the YMCA where your should bring your kids to play. So, preview the content, and just keep your kids out of threads that are of no concern to them. That includes the religious, political, violent, sexist, and even the boring threads. My son will be 9 in May. He's had his own computer with internet access since he was 5. Right now, that computer is right next to mine, but it has no "Net Nanny", "Surf Watch" or other filter system in place, and I do not actively monitor what he does on the internet. I don't NEED TO, I know what he's been taught and I trust him. As far as nudity, my son is being brought up to understand that the human body is natural and nothing to be ashamed of, but he's also been taught to respect other people's rights, and to not allow people to exploit him. AT the suggestion of Diesel Lover, I have consulted my copy of the holy scriptures, and I will close with some bible verses that should help us all understand our feelings: Mark 7:21-23 "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. " II Samuel 11:2 "And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon." Solomon's Song 4:5, 7:3,7 Thy two breasts are like..."two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies, ...two young roes that are twins, ...clusters of grapes." Solomon's Song 4:11, 7:9 "Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon... And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine for my beloved, that goeth down sweetly, causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak." Solomon's Song 8:8 "We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?" Isaiah 20:2-3 "At the same time spake the LORD by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and loose the sackcloth from off thy loins, and put off thy shoe from thy foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot. And the LORD said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and Ethiopia; So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt." II Samuel 16:22 "So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel." Judges 19:24-25 "Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing. But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go." Ezekiel 23:20 "There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of a horse." (New International Version) SEE, THIS STUFF'S SMUTTY TOO. . .
