Well, yea, I guess so What I would do if I owned such a piece of junk...is start replacing the body panel and chassis with that of a REAL car. Then he MIGHT be doing something worthwhile :p

ROTFLMAO....

Man, you guys are KILLIN' me here... Whew!! With that many options on that Yugo, it's a wonder he can climb a small hill with it!! I saw a PINK chevy Caprice the other day while driving through "South Augusta" had PINK matching wheels and RED flame decals on it. I almost had a wreck I was laughing so hard. I was like "NOOOOO They DIDN'T, WAAAAHAHAHAHAH!" (swerving all over the road)....

For some reason, I'm not surprised. If there are enthusiast clubs out there for the Ford Pinto, there's gotta be a club for both of the Yugos still out there...

I wonder what the other one looks like?

From the YUGO site

[B]My daily driver, a 1990 Yugo Cabrio, is one of only 85 imported to the US, and my fifth Yugo. Contrary to the jokes you hear (from non-owners), they are dependable and economical cars when cared for properly. We have an international lustserve for Yugo owners and admirers, and have listserve members who race their Yugos (and win). A simple 4 cylinder engine, no complicated computer controls. No expensive diagnostic equipment at the dealership! A dream come true for the shade tree mechanic! Low initial cost of purchase, low cost for parts and service, and economical gas milage all in one neat little box! While the less fortunate and uninformed laugh, our small but loyal group drive our Yugos with greatleasure- and laugh all the way to the bank! So next time you hear a Yugo joke, ask the jokester if they ever actually owned a Yugo[B]

at CLICK

They have pictures
[IMG]http://www.ak-miramare.hr/baca/vslike/zanim/limo.jpg
[/IMG]

They have alternative fuel people in their forum like us
"Pasted from their forum" (remind you of anyone?)

------------------
You think it's a joke? It's not! There really exists a Yugo powered by wood! Due to lack of gasoline at gas stations, our eastern neighbours decided to use WOOD. And that's not all, driving on wood is up to 10 times CHEAPER than driving on gas.
----------------------

They have problems that they address to other members

--------------------
Is anyone else having problems with lug nuts twisting off when changing a tire?

-----------------------------------

For those of you that are bold - look at the "Curiosities" link

One final note - I do not own a Yugo, never have probably never will.

For those who think that Yugo's are no longer made. Wrong. They are still being built in the same Serbian plant that was bombed by the US. The plant has been rebuilt, and cars are still being sold in Europe. Bricklin is also in the process of bringing the Yugo BACK to the US under a new name - ZMW. Current release date has been pushed back to 2005. They were originally supposed to be on the market by the end of this year. Bricklin claims that they are supposed to have gotten the quality control issues taken care of that plauged the cars when they were sold back in the 80's.

I've never owned one either, but would consider it for the fun of buying a car dirt cheap for no other purpose beyond seeing how quickly I could kill it.

Why do I get the feeling that the U.S. conversion would MORE than double the price of the car. An $1800 car with $3000 of emissions components added on. Probably take that 42hp engine down to about 28..... There was a hilarious TV commercial a year or so ago (by Midas, believe) that showed some nutcake in a Yugo (with the tech in passenger seat) trying to jump a bridge that was out. The tech was freaking out "....but, but -- this is a YUGO!"

I've been keeping quiet on the subject.. but here goes. One of my neighbors 2 houses up has an obsession with Yugos. He has a '90 (?) GV+ in his garage that looks like it rolled off of the showroom floor. I have ridden in it, and actually, it felt to be of better quality and more susbstantial than a Metro. He's curently looking for a cabrio, but is having a hard time finding one in the US.
I personally wish they would import the Smart City coupe in the form that it is now... I would seriously go and buy one.
