aggressive pop ups

Has any one expeirienced a barage of pop ups that forces you to turn your computer off? I mean they have pop ups that invade your internet explorer preferences. Nasty sheet. You have to shut off the computer and reconfigure the browser.

Can we make these sob's go away?

I use the google tool bar which helps some, and I also run "ad aware" on a daily basis. These seem to help.

Anyone who writes the code for pop-ups must have trouble sleeping at night.

I am glad you asked..

I downloaded Mozilla 1.5 and it STOPs all popups. It will run faster that IE...I have IE also but surfing the web (for MB cars) I use Mozilla ...

http://www.mozilla.org/

You can use both on your computer, when you install just say NO to the use Mozilla as default browser....

pop ups are a diabolical menace.

no one has to live with them though.... that's why there is

www.panicware.com

just download and install the free version under ''downloads''

end of pop ups

also the opera browser has a good popup stopper feature.

have a nice day!

I'm using the resident web browser that came with OS-X and it blocks pop-ups. Some sites have pop-upd for yu when the site needs info. Just turn the blocking function off. I use Google's blocker at work on my PC (Windows XP) and it works for the overwhelming majority of pop-ups.

What I really want is some sort of aggressive spamicide.

I use a popup killer but it seems to get a little excited at times, say for instance if I open a picture in a new window it'll close that and the window used to open it. But yes I've had popups go wild before where it'd open a few new ones every second but pop up killer would only close two of those per second. It normally resulted me in ctrl+alt+del my way out by closing all of the IEs open. Thanks for the link to mozilla I've been wanting to give that a try.

the mozilla seems to work well. I put on the panicware program too for good measure.

I was amazed how intrusive some of those pop ups are they go right into your browser bookmark themselves and reset your home page for you. I cant imagine what they hope to gain besides pissing people off.

Well I don't agree with all of that, they can't set the homepage unless it asks you something and you click ok. You may say ok to any question and it is setting your homepage. I always click the X or no. The same thing goes for bookmarks.

SpyBot is MUCH better than Ad Aware, give it a try sometime.

Mozilla..

I was surfing Autotrader the other night and I clicked on a ad for a car and here comes all the porn on my computer, it even took over my browser, so I had to ctrl-Alt -Delete and reset my home page back to Yahoo. Thats when I downloaded Mozilla..but you are right I did have to click on something, but NOT any porn..

there's got to be something better out there than IE

Mozilla or Firebird. Firebird is based on Mozilla, has a few extra goodies and the menus at the top are organized in a way more familiar to IE users.

Mozilla is faster than IE. It's more standards compliant than IE. TIME magazine voted it the best web browser.

www.mozilla.org
www.mozillazine.org

If you want some addons for Mozilla/Firebird, check out www.mozdev.org - Mycroft and Optimoz are particularly handy.

That should change as more and more people escape from ie; the web authors will almost certainly adjust. With any luck, it'll help keep pages in line with open standards.

Actually I never heard of mozilla before until I was checking the web statistics on my site, one of the categories is what people viewed it with and there it was, Mozilla.

Ok now Firebird and Thunderbird..

Last night I downloaded Mozilla Firebird and Thunderbird, I thought I would give it a try. seems to work Ok, but not intergrated, two sperate programs, so you can't click on a mail icon on browser..you have to open Thunderbird mail seperate. Also you have to remove any old Mozilla programs first. And there is a windows installer for these programs..

Mozilla is a complete browser/email/web page creation suite. Firebird is a standalone browser and thunderbird is a standalone email client.
