Hi Everyone,
I've been away from mercedesshop for a while due to my new project. Here are som pics of my new 225" 2000 Fritz dragster I am almost finished with. Soon it will have a new 544 cu. in. BBC with EFI and powered on methanol. I cannot wait to get this baby out on the strip this spring!
Enjoy the pics!

Adam,
I had one of those toys twenty years ago. I still miss it at times. I don't know if you've driven before, I still remember the feeling of doing those burn outs and the feel when the tires would hook-up. Good luck with it and have fun.

I think you need to put a turbo diesel in it

Hey thanks guys, i'm glad you like it.

Kaun,
Yeah, pretty much.
I started with a brand new chassis that was never finished and built it up from there. I'm going first class this time. High quality wiring and connectors, braided SS lines with AN fittings for every hose, an awesome engine with EFI and even a Racepak data logger fully loaded! All the aluminum parts are currently being either anodized, chromed or Jet hot coated. Even the inside of the body panels have been painted.

Tom,
That’s cool, Tell me a little about your rail, I would like to hear about it. My dad has been racing since the late 60's and got me into the sport. I have been driving our 67 Camaro. (seen in background.) for a while now. Although it runs mid 9's and pulls a two and a half foot wheel stand on launch, it doesn't beat a Super Comp dragster! The acceleration is absolutely incredible!!! My dad and I just got our NHRA license in Gainesville Last spring for super comp. We can't wait to get back out there.

rickg,
Although the temptation of a turbocharged inline 5 diesel is a good idea I think 920HP a little more inviting...

Lebenz,
Same Here man! I just love dragsters. I think there very unique, light weight and usually loaded with HP and, without a question, a babe magnet. As for the display, it's called a crossover. A crossover basically matches your ET with the guy in the other lane if he is slower than you. It is very helpful in bracket racing, if you run faster than your stated ET you "break out" loose. It controls this via a pneumatic throttle stop. ( An extra set of butterfly valves.) This restricts the flow of fuel/air to the engine thus slowing you down. The crossover sets shift points rpm limit and transbrake as well. Even though I am running a 2 speed automatic transmission the gears are manually shifted with a pneumatic solenoid controlled by the crossover. The transbrake basically sets the trans in reverse and first gear at the same time. This is done so you can get a perfect launch. So, the crossover locks the trans and sets a rev limit so you can mash down on the gas and the the engine spools up for maximum torque just before the torque converter kicks in. With all this, all you have to do to make an awesome run is release the right button on the steering wheel, the transbrake releases and the engine proceeds to redline until you shift or let off the gas!
It all sounds more complicated than it actually is but it's cool/fun either way. I cannot wait to get more into the tuning part.

Adam

Seriously though, if I can ever scratch up the extra $$, I want to build a rod, something like a T-bucket, and I want to put in a M/B 5-cyl turbo diesel just to be different. Anybody can do one with a Chev 350

rickg,
I agree, I enjoy being different myself. That's why I’m torbocharging my 300E! Through automotive history many high performance turbo diesels have been used for endurance races, successfully I might add. However diesels are not practical in drag racing applications due to their slow revving. Another reason I like dragsters is that none of them are identical. They are all custom and need the builders engineering and creativity. Anyway, Good Luck with your diesel project and keep us posted!

Here is a pic of my dad and I at Gainesville.....

This gentleman begs to differ

(I'll post specs later, and no, it's not my truck...although I wish it were )

Warden,
Wow, That was cool! No doubt diesels are great engines with lots of potential. However, If you used the same displacement and same boost psi that the truck in the video has on a gas engine you would see an even better ET. A truck like that would be awesome to own. Not only could you blow away most street cars but also tow just about anything.

The realy amazing thing is that that's his daily driver!

It's a '95 (I think; year may be wrong, but it's definitely between '95 and '97) F-350 with a 12 valve 6BT Cummins swapped in. The owner got to the limit of the power levels he could get out of the Powerstroke (600 horsepower), so in an effort to get even more power, he dropped the Cummins in. That engine's been modified to accomodate twin turbos, extra fuel injected, etc. although it's not running propane injection (a common diesel mod).

Now, here are the numbers...
800 horsepower and 1500 ft-lbs of torque (measured at rear wheel) and almost 100 lbs of boost.
And the real shocker...that truck still gets 18 mpg. Heck, I wish I could get that mileage out of my 6.9l! (I get 14 as it is)
The other real shocker is that that 6BT is hooked up to a Ford E4OD tranny...granted, he's modified the tranny to handle that kinda power, but the E4OD is typically known as the E4POS, and he's apparently had pretty good luck with it...

Now I know what I wanna do with my truck someday

OMG! Thats awsome. Now why can't someone figure out how to do that with a 603. I wounder if a 6BT would fit in an SDL, hmmm.
