1987 Mercedes 190e 2.3 - Replacing Oxygen Sensor

Hi;

I would like to replace the oxygen sensor in my 190e. The mercedes shop manual suggests removing the floor plate on the passenger side to get access to the sensor. Looking at the floorplate I do not see any bolts to remove it. All I can find under the carpeting is a plastic vent leading from the console and continuing under the seat. Any suggestions on removing the floor plate.

The floors plastic plate has the wires there for the sensor. Under the car by the shifter area on the exhaust you should be able to see the O2 sensor. I changed mine by jacking up the car, climbing under and removing the old and installing the new one with an open ended wrench. Had no issues and took me a matter of minutes to do. Unplug it first inside the car so you can slip it out and slip in the new one's wires without needing to climb out from under the car.

Here's a tip for you if you haven't already bought your new O2 sensor:

Buy a Bosch sensor for a 1990s Ford Mustang V-8. It should cost about $40 (instead of the $120 for the MB part) and is exactly the same sensor -- just with a different connector.

Cut the connectors off both sensors, and solder the MB connector to the new "Ford" sensor. For about 15 minutes of work, you just saved yourself $80! Not bad, eh?
