Crystal, Clear or Smoke corners (124)?

I've ordered a set of Euro headlamps, and want to get a new pair of matching corners (one of mine is broken anyway). I've seen pictures of all three, but it's hard to find high quality close ups. I'm having a hard time deciding which one will look right on my smoke silver 300D.

I think the crystal is a bit too clear. Anybody have any opinions on the smoke corners? Do these corners have the standing light feature?

My 95 E320 has all clear lenses. See the little avatar pic--see what it looks like. Smoke might be nice too-probably depends on what color your car is.
Standing lights?
I have no parking lights on mine. The clear corners are turn signals only, no other function. When I'm driving at night, only the headlights and the clear driving lights are on.

Don't know if this would be the same with the w124, but I went with smoked corners on my w201 after switching to euro headlights.

All the pictures I've seen with the clears, really stood out. They looked almost white.

I think the smoked corners match up better with my euros, as the glass seems to have almost a "tinted" look, so they blend well together.

As they say, your results may vary and opinions are like, well, you get the idea.

Have you ever considered the original german look. The amber turn signals. Just an idea I had. However I dont mind the smoke turn signals.

I have noticed that many people go for the JDM look on their japanese cars especially the hondas. They install all amber turn signals instead of the clear corners.

I am on the same boat as you. I was considering the crystal, but afraid it will not fit right.

I am not sure what the standing light feature is. If you are saying the putting the parking light on one side or the other when parked. That has nothing to do with the light itself. One thing to remember either way is to keep your original socket. You may need it due, some of the aftermarket and some OEM use a one filament bulb or does not complete the circuit correctly. My friend threw away his old corner light socket and always had the dummy light for a burnt out bulb always on, due to the socket in Europe and USA were different.

The standing light feature is what we in the US call parking lights. Basically the bulb in the turn signal for the USA has two filaments instead of one like in europe. When you turn your headlights on one filament comes on with the headlight (it also comes on without the headlights on one click of the headlight switch) and the second filament only comes on for signalling.
There are a few europeans who like this feature becuase of the safety aspect and because it looks "American" so european aftermarket sellers have started to provide europeans with corners that have a standinglight feature that mimics the US parking light by drilling an extra hole in the turn signal and mounting a small bulb in it and then providing instructions on splicing this small bulb with the european citylight wires.
The city light feature in europe is a small bulb thats inside the headlight on european cars. It comes on with one click clockwise of the headlight the same way the parking light comes on in the USA. If you have euro headlights in the USA you probably have a mounting for a city light if you look closelyat your euro headlight main reflector. The small bulb of the city light is the same as the small bulb of the standinglight.
Now stay with me....
if you are in the USA and you have euro headlights and want to activate the city light feature, you can get the bulb holder and bulb, fit it into the reflector and splice it to the third wire going to your turn signal. That third wire provides the power for the second filament in the turn signal bulb for the US parking light.

Hope you got it. Your profile doesn't indicate where you are from. Considering that you don't know what parking light are I am assuming you are probably from a non-US territory so hope this explains things...

Yes, I get it. In one of the pictures of the crystal lenses, it looked like there were two holes for two bulbs. I realize that it's actually a dual filament bulb and I was seeing a reflection in the chrome finish inside the lens (duh).

I'm in Baltimore MD. I started out wanting Bosch or Hella lenses, but ended up buying Depo's after reading several positive comments from those who own them (some owned both brands, and still liked the Depo's).

I ended up ordering the smoke corners. They caught my eye first, and I think they will blend in nicely with the paint, smoke silver metalic. I'm not going for the ricer look, just trying to modernize the aging front end while replacing some cracked, broken and worn out parts on my '87 300D. Could have gone stock, but I like the look of the euro headlamps.

You made a good choice with the Euro headlamps. The light output is a cut above. The Depos are fine quality for the price. You probably saw my post where I took one apart and compared it to a Bosch one and it looked fine. The only problem I have had with my Depo is that the vacuum adjust feature does not work because aparently its plugged up. I'll fix it in the summer I have a Depo with a Bosch lens mounted on one side of my car and a complete Bosch unit on the otherside and I can't tell the difference in light output or looks. I guess if money was no object I would have gotten the Bosch unit but this car is over 15 years old!

I have crystals on the SL, but it is a white car. They look particularly good on a white car, IMHO. Like shiny jewels. They are Depos, but who cares on the corners? E-codes themselves are Bosch, of course.

On a darker car, smoked or standard clear would probably look better.

My $0.02,
