xenons do not auto level anymore!
both front control arms on my 2001 C240 has just been replaced by my dealer, now, when i turn on my xenons, they hardly go up and down with their auto levellers, now, the headlights are pointing downwards. The auto levelling function seem to work, however, it seems that the default headlight level is out of whack. i tried looking under the front stabilizer/sway bars, and the sensor seem fine.
so now, when i switch on the car with the headlamps, the beam hardly goes up and down, unlike before, where u can really see it point down then go back up to the correct level. anything i should check????????????? my dealer is so so far away, and they r denying that they have done sumthing to the car which affected the xenons levelling. |

First make sure the sensors were reattached to the control arms (THAT you should be able to do yourself if you want). If the adjusters DO move a little, the sensors probably are attached, but they could have them somehow connected wrong.
The dealer is most likely going to have to check the HRA control unit for fault codes, and barring any problem there, they may simply have to do an initiallization of the adjustment motors in the headlights, I have seen this before with body shop repairs. Gilly

does it really require Star Diagnosis????? the dealer is in another island 3 days away by ship, so its really hard and "expensive" to send back the car there just for the headlight problem.
my auto levelling moves a little, but it seems the "default" position of the beams is out of whack after the control arm replacement. i looked underneath, and the sensor seem to be untouched. |

Well, YES, if the sensors are attached, you can't check for codes yourself, unless you own an SDS (I don't know if there are other diagnostic tools that will read HRA on your car or not, but I guess that's beside the point, you can't do diagnostics on it without something to read the codes).
Maybe MB would send someone to you with an SDS? Just a thought, I doubt it. Where in the heck do you live, anyways? Check the sensors on both lower control arms FIRST. Gilly

thanks a lot for the help gilly, and yeah, the dealer called me up and they said SDS is needed to set the HRA to default settings, they might have adjusted the default values by accident. so as suggested, i went the manual way using the plastic adjustment screws on the housings, now i have raised the headlight level, but the auto levelling isnt moving up and down as it used to.
i live in the island where the abu sayaffs used to be.hehehehe |

The LAST thing I would have recommended doing is adjusting the adjusters on the headlights. These are very carefully adjusted at the factory, now it is up to the DEALER (ahem....) (the ones who can't return the car fully operational, THOSE guys) to get the HRA to work properly (at which time the adjustment will be WAY off) and use whatever means available to them, and all their wonderful working skills (ahem) to adjust the headlights properly.
Can you give me a STRAIGHT answer on where you live, or do I have to use my web browser to determine your location based on your "clue"? Gilly PS and I suppose you still haven't looked to see if the level sensors were reconnected? I am even thinking the Xenon cars MIGHT even have a different lower control arm with facilities to attach the level sensor arm, I wouldn't doubt it, maybe they installed the wrong arms!
